white brothers shock problem?

I just bought a yz 80 off a buddy, i am alright with the motors but have never touched a shock. the shock stays bottemed if you push down on it. If you pull it up it will stay up. for the most part it is bottemed. any suggestions as to what needs to be done about this? and if I take off the cap will the spring come shooting out?

are you talking about the shock (in the rear), or the fork (in the front)? Not sure what "cap" you're referring to.

well like I said, i am new. I don't know if different name shocks have different things. And it is the front fork. it has a little bit of spring to it but if you pull it up all the way it will stay there. but if you push down on it it will go back down to about half way and stay. it only springs back up about half way when you push hard on it.

well i took the cap off and drained the oil, I noticed when i took off the cap that only one spring was up. the other spring was snaped, and jamed all down in there. so i have to replace a spring.
