Radiator guards-less cooling?

Hey, I recently got the cage style rad guards, the type with the cutouts or slots that eliminate the louvers. Ive heard before that the louvers actually direct air into the rads fins and improve the cooling more so than not using the louvers at all, so just using these guards would be pretty much the same right? Or do they allow more air to flow through?

There is little chance that a restriction to airflow will result in better cooling. Simple aerodynamic theory will tell you that a restriction or blockage is just that.
However, there is an interesting thing that happens with radiators and airflow. To force air through a rad core, there must be a pressure differential. At certain speeds, the pressure differential is maximized with a small inlet and a large outlet relationship. Just the opposite of the funnel type rad inlet used on dirt bikes.
Many a race car/road race bike cooling problem has been solved by using a properly sized inlet. This size is easily calculated by the airflow capacity of the rad.
