Reed and Lawrence Come to Blows??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

If your going to Lakewood this weekend I'd make sure I don't miss seeded practice. See the story HERE

Posted by: jboomer---------------------

Wow! Jason Lawrence was able to borrow a bike and run Chad down...he must be pretty fast!

That just makes the story harder to believe.

Posted by: Kav---------------------

Anger tends to make people do things the wouldn't normaly do, and Who's to say CR was going full race pace?

Posted by: Chili---------------------

Here's the fastest practice times from Unadilla:

1 4 02:09.246 Practice 2 Ricky Carmichael Suzuki RMZ450
2 259 02:10.144 Practice 4 James M Stewart Kawasaki KX250
3 22 02:11.927 Practice 4 Chad Reed Yamaha YZ450F
4 14 02:12.323 Practice 2 Kevin W Windham Honda CRF450R
5 8 02:13.026 Practice 4 Grant Langston Kawasaki KX250F
6 12 02:13.175 Practice 4 David Vuillemin Yamaha YZ450F
7 70 02:14.240 Practice 4 Travis A Preston Honda CRF450R
8 24 02:14.296 Practice 4 Ernesto Fonseca Honda CRF450R
9 338 02:14.331 Practice 3 Jason D Lawrence Suzuki RM250Z

Given that with Lawrence on a 250F that many feel is an absolute turd, I don't think it's inconceivable that adding a little anger as well as a 250 2 Stroke to the mix that Lawrence couldn't run down Reed for a brief period. Of course Bubba says a 250 2 stroke has no chance so who knows

Posted by: Kav---------------------

well maybe Bubba should get mad

Posted by: bclapham---------------------

i really miss Cahuilla Creek, awesome track and within an hour of my old place.

Posted by: Vic---------------------

Were they both entered in the "who can behave in the most unprofessional manner?" contest?

I expect a lot better from Reed.

No kidding... This story is hard to believe, but if it's true... Reed just made himself look bad.
J-Law is a punk kid, I could tell that from the few interviews he's had. And I would be pissed too if someone parked me, especially when my job is to stay healthy and race motorcycles. I don't condone what Reed MAY have done, but I can understand it.

And I'm sure if it came down to it... Reedy would beat the snot out of J-Law.

LOL... funny story! They are both weenies who threw their bikes down at Red Bud in the middle of races to walk back to the pits.... so no surprise here to me on the little schoolyard drama. Haha.... good stuff.

I don't know about weenies... Chad has the heart of a lion when his bike runs.

Here's another blurb from MXA that suggests that a fight may not have even occured. LINK

MXA is'nt a very good magazine

Posted by: nikki---------------------

Here's a bit from TFS at Motonews:

The story that was kicking around about Reed and J-Law having a fist fight at a practice track doesn't check out. This is what I get (not a first hand account):

Reed's side is he was doing serious motos. J-Law and his friend were fooling around, taking each other out, not going fast-just playing.

J-Law was on a borrowed bike so Reed didn't know who it was on the track. At one point they messed with Reed instead of each other and he confronted them, and grabbed one by the helmet. Words exchanged, no fists. They were "hey we are just playin around man."

Chad forgot about it, didn't even mention it to Ellie (and they talk about a lot). Then it popped up on the web as a fight and Yamaha's PR guy called Chad to say WTF?

That's Chad's side pretty much. Unofficial and no quotes.

Posted by: Vic---------------------

I'm having a very difficult time believing that MXA would get it wrong.

Posted by: i_955---------------------

Reed's just getting practiced up for when Bubba takes RC out for good, then comes Kamikaze for him. BONZI

Posted by: xsnrg---------------------

MXA got it wrong...they've even put a blurb up since saying that there was likely no fight. Reed said there were no punches, just some bar banging.

i second that

I disaagree with labeling Reed a weenie for throwing the bike down and walking to the pits. His back wheel was locked up, do you expect him to walk back to the pits holding the back end of his bike in the air? He had a 2nd moto to get ready for.

Why not, Scott Summers would have

Him throwing his bike down sends the message that his bike is a piece of crap and that he's throwing a temper tantrum. If I were a manufacturer and someone threw my bike down, I would take it as a sign of disrespect. Reed's much bigger than all of that...up till now he's shown lots of maturity and poise and this type of behavior damages that image.

Posted by: flynbryan---------------------

He was probably just ticked off..... You ever been angry jboomer? Is it inconcieveable that Reed was pissed off and out of frustration threw his bike down. When you go out and ride your heart out just to be taken out by a mechanical failure. I'm sure its frustrating...... Give the guy a break. He's only human. Everyone loves to get on their soap boxes around here.

MXA blew this all out of proportion either because they heard about is second hand, or they just made shyte up to fill in the blanks or make it a better story. I'd sooner believe something on the front cover of The Globe or The Sun as anything in MXA.

I'm not busting on you Chili for posting this, I'm busting on MXA for "reporting" it.

Great journalism! They waste time on crap like this, but nobody has yet asked Bubba why he landed on Ricky. I've read lots of people in the moto press making excuses for Bubba and even purporting to know what was in his head, but nobody has asked him. And they haven't asked him about his prior public comments that he has purposely tried to jump on people in the past. I'm not assuming he did it on purpose; I really doubt that he would have done that. But I think that honest journalists ought to be asking him some questions. It's the hottest topic in motocross right now, and we get nothing but speculation from the lap dog moto press, who act more like star-struck fans than real reporters.

I totally agree. I've seen a few riders throw their bikes down after mechanicals... and I don't see them as weenies or babies at all. They're just venting.

Remember when the RMZ250's and KX250F's first came out? Tedesco had problems. Millsaps had 2 or 3 DNF's because it would break down on him. He threw the bike down on the last lap of a national while running in 2nd place. I'd be a little pissed too. These guys train and ride their b@lls off to race. They're paid to win.

Anyway, didn't Reed throw his bike down after the chain snapped? His rear wheel wouldn't have been seized at all. But, I wouldn't have pushed it back to the pits either.

A couple weeks before his chain snapped, his bike wouldn't start, so Reed helped his mechanics push it back to the starting gate.

JMD - I suspect Bubba and Kawasaki are not taking calls from any 'real' reporters this week.

I'm not paid to do their job either. On my side of the fence, have I ever walked to my jet, sweated through preflight and startup, got to the rwy only to find their's a mechanical issue present preventing me from completing a safe flight? Absolutely! Did I throw my gear and helmet down in front of the airplane and storm off because some maintainer may or may not have done their job? No. And I'm paid a lot less.

Posted by: xsnrg---------------------

Links:
James is IN for Lakewood (MXA)

Bubba is OUT for Lakewood (Transworld MX)

That may not be fair to MXA, things change as more info comes out, but why would Kawi PR tell anyone in the press that he is IN when the final verdict wasn't in yet from the docs?

Hey don't shoot the messenger I made sure I put a few of these ??? so you knew I was questioning it!

Posted by: Someone---------------------

I am no pro, I don't even race, but if my bike craps out on me, I throw it down in anger. It hurts it less than the tree's I've hit.
