Should I goof around or be more serious?

I've been falling in love with dirt bikes since I've been working at horse shows this summer and I've seen lots of folks riding around on 50, 70, 80cc honda dirt bikes to get around the show grounds. I've hopped on an ATV and this crappy yamaha scooter, and I've found that what I really want to do is to go fast through fields and dirt roads and stuff (have always loved it in my 4Runner). So here's the question -- or two or three.

1) What sized bike should I get if I'm 6' 150lbs, pretty strong? I don't have much of any experience doing anything competitive, and I don't think I plan to, but this raises another question:

2) Should I get a bike that fits just in case, that I'd still be able to goof around on? Or should I get an 80cc or so bike that's pretty cheap that I can goof around on? I don't want to spend a ton of money (though 2000-3000 seems like minimum).

3) And finally, what's the difference between the Honda CRF 80 and 85? there's a 1000 dollar price difference in the MSRP, but I don't see too much of a difference looking at the two.

Any help would be great. Just an adrenaline hungry 21 year old guy lookin for a couple scrapes and bruises and good times.

The CRF80 is a beginner trail bike, the CR85 is a race bike. Way faster way better suspension.I think you will be well off on a CR KX YZ RM 125 or a CRF 230.

If you dont have any experience on a dirtbike you will not want to goof around on a 125 two stroke.

the 125 or 230 for a more comfortable ride size-wise? are the CRs higher top speed and more dynamic and the CRFs better with suspension and beefier? Is that the general distinction?

CRFxxxF are trail/beginner bikes. CRFxxxR and CRxxxR are motocross bikes. CRFxxxX are racing bikes for trails (cross-country, harescrambles, enduro, etc). I think an old Honda XR200R or XR250R would be a good bike for you.

I'd say the XR's stated above would be good also.
