I grew up riding quads which Ive always just rode orchards and ripped on trails but decided to buy a bike. I now want to try mx on it and today is my 1st open practice and Im really nervous because I have NOOO idea what Im doing! lol and advice?

Hold your line, don't try to get out of the way, the faster people know how to get around you. Also watch and see where the faster people are taking off from the jumps and use a different line, that way it minimizes the chances of a collision. The biggest thing is just to go out and have fun. For the most part people are friendly and helpful, most everyone there is out to have a good time.

Best advice for a newbie to MX: keep to the sides on the track and jumps and hold your line (don't swerve from one side to another) so the faster riders can get by and won't land on you.

Other than that - have fun!! Try to find another new rider or someone your speed at the track to ride with so you guys can learn from each other.

Thanks! that deffenetly helps! What do I do at the whoops and jumps? And advice there?? Sorry, I know I sound like and idiot but Im leaving in 3 hours and I figure the more advice, the better!

On whoops, you want to get off the seat, lean back as far as you can go, push down hard on your foot pegs and hold on tight with your legs, the faster you go, the easier it is. Jumps, just work up to, if you have to roll over everything then roll over it. Tabletops are the best to learn on IMHO, doubles, especially big ones take lots of commitment, you don't want to nose into the other double, it takes alot out of you. I know because I do it alot, I tend to chicken out, but you find out that is way easier on the body to just jump it. Just go slow, don't expect much other than to get used to things, and learn the track.

Whoops - stand up and slowly roll them in 1st or 2nd gear, use a little clutch if needed so you don't stall your bike. Once you get the hang of them, you can try a little faster

Jumps - you're better off to slow down and roll peaky doubles or jumps, instead of jumping them a little bit. But on flat tabletops, go ahead and try to get a little air and get the feel for it.

Ok, thanks sooo much! The only jumps Ive ever really done are just little things in orchards or trails! Obviously nothing like the mx tracks! Oh my gosh! Im so excited to go now that I kinda have an idea what to do! Thanks!

Let us know how you did, give us a ride report when you get back.

Posted by: nikki---------------------

So..... how was it?

Posted by: tyesai---------------------

Yeah, come on, how was it, we want to know even if you hated it and had to roll everything. There is no shame, I am thirty years old been riding street for over a decade, dirt for a year, and still get wasted by that kid on a 65.

OMG OMG OMG!!! That was the most AWSOME thing Ive ever done! I mean, I snowboard, race horses in rodeos, and do some fun things, but that deffenetly beats that and rippen it up in trails and orchards anyday!!!!! And i swear, I could clear every jump there was by the end of the day! I was sooo happy! Thanks again for the advice! Im going there again tomorrow morning!!! Cant wait!!!
