hi, i have been a 4 wheel guy now for about 5 years. i want to get into the 2 wheel world. I, being a unexperienced rider am wondering what bike would be good for me, im 5-9, and 140lbs. i have been lookin online at auctions and i have found nice bikes under 1000. im on a budget of around 1200, and last but not least im a yamaha fan. i can settle with anything besides kawasaki, but prefer to ride blue. thanks

Yeah, KTM's are known for their low resale

Check your local listings. In the coming weeks used bikes will be hitting the market hard. I'm sure you'll be able to find a mid to late 90's YZ125 in your price range. The YZ125 is a great starter bike for someone your size.

thanx, i tried that and found a couple of good bikes. would a yz 250 be to big for me? i want somthing that i wont grow out of that fast. and would a yz 80 be to small for me? i heard they do like 80mph, is that true? also can i get a good old bike without putting alot of money into it. thanx

Well, I have never seen you ride, but I would think that you might be better off on a 125. Don't discount the ability of a 125/250F, they are powerful bikes and a lot of fun to ride. More power doesn't always mean more fun. A bike with too much power might scare the poop out of you, and you wont enjoy riding a bike that you lack confidence on. It is my opinion that all adult-sized people should start off on a 125. They help teach basic skills. But that's my opinion. If you do a search on 125 vs 250, I'm sure you will see a lot of opinions.

Forget about top speed. You will likely never get to see it. On most trails and tracks your speed will never get above 30 to 40 mph. Even the pros riding outdoor MX never get much above that.

I have alway found that to be about the best source. We have a publication here called the Treasure Hunter. Other areas call it a Penny Saver. What ever it's called, you will often find many bike to choose from over a one month period.

i have decided to go with a used yz 125, i was just wondering how good of condition of a bike i can get with my 1000-1200 dollar price range. i don't really want any year below a 1990 or above a 2000. any information on this topic is greatly appreciated.

Posted by: PowerBandBoy---------------------

im sorry i forgot to put my topic in my previous post. i meant to add what is the difference in a older yz 125 compared to a 1999-2000 yz 125.sry

Posted by: PowerBandBoy---------------------

i'm looking into a yz 125, it will be a older model. preferebly a 1997. I have heard many things about pump gas problems. I have heard that i should use av fuel. Do i need this fuel? will it destroy my carb and my engine with pump gas? thats what i have heard. thanx for any information.
