I am 5' 11'', 230lbs. not planning on doing any racing...
new to dirt biking, thinking of getting a TTR230. is this powerfull enough / big enough for someone my size? need something low maintenance.

I think you'd be disappointed with the TTR230. Look at the Honda XR250R or XR400R.

Yeah - if youre set on a 4stroke, go for something over 300ccs - TTRs are notorious for being a bad/entry level 4stroke
If its a 2stroke, a 250cc would be perfect

try a crf250x or crf450x, both great all around bikes, it just depends on what kind of riding you want to do and what kind of power you will need

Agree about the TTR, especially the 230. It's slow and heavy. Low maintenance? Go with an XR. they're a bullet-proof 4 stroke.

at 5'11" and 230 lbs, go for an XR400... the 250 is a great bike, but you'll appreciate the extra power of the 400 and it won't be too much to handle.
