Bedrug or Rhino???

I got a new truck and it needs some sort of protection for the bed. I'm going to go with one of these two options so I'm looking for someone to make up my mind and tell me why I should buy one over the other. So lets hear what ya got to say.............

The two negatives I see to the bedrug are that it can hold moisture under it (rust) and that it will hold dirt more than a smoother surface.

Another thing I like about Rhino is that you can also cover the top of the sides of the bed.

AND...that stuff is removable. You'll come back to the truck one day only to find it stolen so that Elk hcould carpet his house with your bedliner.

Rhino gets my vote. Very sturdy, durable, good looking etc. Its been in the bed of my F-250 for a long time and still looks great

Rhino is crap in my book. Had it in my last truck, dark charcoal to match the plastic bed rail caps Ford puts on. It got discolored from pollen in the air! Yup it turned a nice yellow-green especially in the corners of the bed. Then there was the chalking of the material, it went from the charcoal with nice yellow-green splotches to a lighter shade with a white film. Sure it's nice that things don't slide around much but this product is also VERY proned to getting cuts, gouges and scrapes because it is so soft. I was totally disappointed in it and vowed never to have Rhino Liner on another vehicle. When that truck went away I decided to think about what I was going to do to the next truck. I put a heavy bed mat in it and that was in July of 2000, it's still there and working fine. Considering they sand the bed to make the liner material stick I figured I'd scratch it up first. Now that I've had time to look at many different options I think I'll stick with the bed mat but Line-X is a possibility or a self install product called Durabak (don't EVEN consider the DIY Herculiner, I tried it on the inside of my tool box, pulled it all out).

I got a LINE-X sprayed in bedliner in my new Frontier and love it. As Patman said, Rhino is too soft LINE-X is very hard and hard to chip or tear up. Cleans up really easy too.

Which is why I had a hard time taking my truck in for a spray in bedliner when it had less than 1k miles on it. LOL

Like Panty said, a bed mat works just fine.

I upgraded my sheet of plywood to a heavy mat like patman, works great. But my pickup is for working, so if the bed gets a scratch or dent then it adds character.

If you decide to go with a spray-in liner, Line-X is the best way to go. It has a lifetime warranty, and no matter where you live, any Line-X dealer will fix it free of charge, even if it's not the same place where it was installed. Rhino doesn't offer that.
Yeah, Line-X and Rhino will fade, but they sell a UV protectant that works a lot like Armor-All on an old vinyl dash. You have to remember though, it's a truck. Trucks that haul stuff aren't going to always look pretty. I've spent about $3000 on my truck after purchase, and the $360 Line-X is the best investment out of that 3k.

If you plan on keeping the truck, a spray-in bedliner is the only way to go.

Line-X also has a new product called Line-X Xtra. It contains kevlar, and is stronger than the regular Line-X.

You dont want to use a plastc bedliner that slips in. It hold water and rusts out the box. Also, in the cold months (for us up north, anyway) the watter freezes and does damaga, then on warmer days it melts and refreezes. I was walking in the back of my dads truck one day last spring (he had a slide in bed liner) with out the bed liner in, I stepped in a rust spot and my foot went right through.

Id say go with Line-X or some other spray in.

I like the Linex so much in my truck that I had it sprayed in the garage of my toyhauler.
It really takes a beating and so far no sign of damage.

Spray in liners are awesome, I worked with a guy that has had his in a work truck for years, beat the snot out of it, yeah, it looks bad but it is still as functional as it was day one. I haven't abused mine to bad, so it still looks brand new. I would suggest sticking with the black color and I run a torza-top collapsable tonnea cover so it has rare exposure to the sun. Plastic inserts are crap & I personally wouldn't use a bed rug.

Here was my bedrug install.

2 years later its still looks like brand new and holding up fine. There is no rust under the rug from moisture. I think the only way it would rust under there is if you already had a scratched up bed. I've hauled rocks, logs, bikes, etc in it with no damage. Just high pressure hose it every few months.

i thought about line-x but for $500 i figured i'd buy a $60 rubber mat and $440 worth of beer instead. i'm still pretty happy with that decision 2 yrs later.

btw, i saw a guy in twin falls last week that had bedlinere'd the *exterior* of his truck too. the whole outside (not the windows, duh). it actually looked pretty cool.

2 things I don't like about the spray in liners are they very ruff surface and it get hot as hell out in the sun.

I still like the idea of the bedrug because it soft flat surface and does not get hot .

Has anyone had a bedrug.

A friend of mine just did that to his 4 Runner. Came out really nice and since his primary use is for a hunting vehicle it's perfect! Plow on through the brush, flying rocks, hail, big freakin' deal it's going to all just bounce off.
