How to make MX/SX more popular?

What can be done to make MX/SX more popular and fair? Here's Andy Bower's take on it...

Even if all Bower's dreams were implemented, MX/SX will never be popular with the mainstream. John Q. Public has had plenty of exposure to MX/SX, and the sport remains an oddity to the masses. It always will. The marketing mavens should concentrate on making the races as appealing as possible to our niche market. Stop trying (unsuccessfully) to make it into something its not (NASCAR).

JMHO.

I think the sport is big enough, at times too big... If fact I kinda wish it was more underground...

Yeah, I think some things are just better when they only have a cult following IMHO.

i totally agree with dante and brit! i don't want mx/sx to become mainsteam like nascar, nascar is lame! i think supercross has already become to big, it's more like a show than a race. the stadiums are are at almost sell out capacity numbers at sx events, what more do people want?

i wonder how mr bower believes his vision would benefit anything??

Mx is popular enough at the moment, the race meetings are so full you often only get 2 races, the practice tracks here are also busy considering how dry and dusty it is.Any more interest would make it worse for the hardcore riders.

if everyone started dirt bike riding then it wouldn't be unique. When I say " yeah i race my dirt bike" the reaction would go from ooooooooohhhhhh cool to meh I know like 6 more people who do.

I know like a dozen people who do. Big whoop. I don't know anyone who races cars, but that does not make me say "oooooh" if someone tells me they do. Heck, I don't know anyone who figure skates or ballroom dances either, but that doesn't keep the networks from having those "competitions" on during prime time.

While I can see the conforming nonconformists wanting to keep it "underground", the more "mainstream" it gets, the more money there is for the privateers. There's a reason the also-rans in MX/SX went to FMX (more network coverage = bigger dollars for those who fill the field).

I lkie his isea on the HP/bike limitations.. Have the riders on equal equipment.. That way it is more rider.. They should also do something w/weight.. Interesting.. Also, i hope they add more tracks and (including SuperCross) have all the races in one big loop, no backtracking, would make it easier for the privateers that are driving too all the races.. Wonder how thye are going too do it w/fuel prices this year..
