a YZ125 and a YZF250 are about the same size, what do you mean???

I think a 4 stroke 250 would be a bit easier to ride for a beginner, but since you have riden 2 strokes before, maybe a 125 might be something for you to look at?

Good Luck

do any of you have a yamaha and what do you think of it?

Posted by: meademac---------------------

I'd say go with the yz125.

In the 125 beginner class a 125 2 stroke is very competitive with the 250 4 strokes. But once the classes mature and daddies start throwing $ at the 4 strokes the 125 has big trouble or can't compete.
That said, I ride with a lad that has a 2005 YZ125. He absolutely loves it. He can throw that bike around and jump things like it is a mountain bike. I've seen him over jump jumps that I can barely case on my YZ250. It is all rider though, maybe if he was on my bike he would still be in the air…

a 125 sounds like the bike for u unless u dont like a hard hitting powerband. if u dont than a 250f is a great choice

Posted by: yammie rider---------------------

Do you think i''ll have any problem size wise because my dad thinks the bike is too big for me?

Posted by: Ruff Rider---------------------

physically the size difference between a 125, 250, 250f, 450f are very close. its the weight that majorly separates these 4 bikes. Your weight shouldnt be a problem on a 125 or 250 (2 or 4) but id stay on the safe side and go for a 125. If cant flat foot any of the 125s youre looking at, get the shortest. Search for tricks to lower height around DRN

good luck

and BTW - id advise waiting a bit til late fall to winter until you purchase (lowest prices)

2st 125 no doubt.

Posted by: yammie rider---------------------

where can i go to look for ways to lower a bike?

Posted by: Ruff Rider---------------------

Ive herd that the "easiest" and cheapest way is to cut the seat foam

Go for the 2 stroke!

Posted by: 83MX80---------------------

i say go for a 250F. i have an 82 KDX175 2 stroke that is just ok. i like having the bottom end there if i need it. like if im puttin' up a hill and crank the right hand, and on a 4 stroke the tires spins and up the bike goes, on a 2 stroke its got a power lag. it takes a while for the rpms to climb before the tire will spin. just my .02.

Try using the clutch.

Posted by: 83MX80---------------------

i hate using the clutch. on my last bike 83 MX80 i only used to the clutch to start and stop thats it. my KDX i am using the clutch but i think im gonna stop using it. it feels weird using the clutch to shift. because if you dont use the clutch the power is instant.

I would submit that your problems have more to do with your particular 24 year-old KDX175 and less to do with the fact that it is a two-stroke.
