2002 yzf 250 Timing Plug

Timing plug came out of my sons bike last night. Does anyone know what might cause it to come loose. Someone at the track said he had heard that sometimes a plugged vent hose could cause the pressure to blow it out. I was lucky that he caught it before any damage. I checked the oil level and it was OK.

On the YZFs they just loosen up over time as the o-rings get old. Part of your pre-ride checklist should be checking that the inspection plugs are tight, and the o-rings should be checked regularly and replaced as they get old.

I replaced mine with plugs from a TTR125. They are aluminum, instead of plastic, and they seem to stay in place much better.

Cool tip.
