I am not going to post the names I have heard "it" called, because I don't want to sway anyone yet. Once I get some names out there, we'll have a poll.

What is it, you ask? well, it's a raised donut with maple frosting. What do you call it in your neck of the woods?

Posted by: Patman---------------------

I call it YUCK! but have heard them referrred to as Bear Claws.

Same here!

Creme filled maple donut. Well if it's creme filled, sometimes the donut maker messes up and forgets to put the creme in. So then it's a mystery maple donut.

OR

a Long John (w/maple frosting, chocolate, vanilla, etc..)

Depends on who you are talking about donuts to

Posted by: dirt bike dave---------------------

That there is a maple bar.

Unfrosted, with chocolate frosting or vanilla frosting it's a Long John.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Long John.

Posted by: Jamir---------------------

sweet!

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

dont' be swingin' the vote there, Jamir . . .

Posted by: TemeculaTim---------------------

Looks like a turd to me

Posted by: Kevin003---------------------

Looks like a maple bar to me.

Posted by: oldguy---------------------

We have crullers here if it is just a clear frosting and LongJohns have either a white cream or chocolate frosting

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

That would be a filled maple bar my big friend. You have entered an area of my expertise.

Posted by: DWreck---------------------

Long John or a Maple Bar. They answer by either name around here.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

^5 DWreck!

Posted by: sparkysakitas---------------------

looks like a heartattack waiting to happen

Posted by: Jeff Gilbert---------------------

I'll go with what ever Elk says it is, after all I believe he is the expert

Posted by: Jamir---------------------

We didn't ask what kind of spark plug a 22" cut Murray self propelled takes so Elk is of no use to us!

Posted by: Rich Rohrich---------------------

Pred - READ A BOOK MAN, you clearly have way too much time on your hands.

Posted by: Green Horn---------------------

Pred,

That's what it looks like when you're "not well.".

Posted by: Sawblade---------------------

Man I thought this was going to be round two of the great truck/pickup debate.

Oh, its a Long John.

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

Long John.

Posted by: firecracker22---------------------

Maple bar! I worked in a bakery for 3 years in high school. (shudder)

Posted by: Brian---------------------

Heck, I'd have called it an eclair?

Posted by: GETMETOCA---------------------

That is a Maple Bar! Long John? Never heard of that before!

Long John Silver's is a fried fish fast food phenom.

Posted by: Mully---------------------

Breakfast.

Posted by: jaction125---------------------

Cop food?

Posted by: mx547---------------------

maple bar.

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

since there seem to be two major names, a poll is now in order . . .

Posted by: Green Horn---------------------

I will not vote. I still think it's one of Preds "Not Well" Bars.

Posted by: bsmith---------------------

For some reason a Creme filled Long John just don't sound right , unless your Twinny

Damn, it only took 3 pages before somebody took it down THAT road.

Posted by: cnielse5---------------------

Homer voice "mmmmmm...Maple Bar"

Posted by: xsnrg---------------------

I've heard long john. Maple Bar sounds like a Long John with a specific flavor of icing.

Posted by: Offroadr---------------------

long john

Posted by: a454elk---------------------

It's a food blister, belly bomb, donut dolly, creamed filled Suzie....

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Shut it cop'er. I don't think this is supposed to be a scientific/professional poll.

Posted by: OKKX'er---------------------

That is a long john, what do you bar people call a chocolate one? Chocolate bar?

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Another High 5 to an Okie.

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

Search "Long John", and Google shows the one on the left.
Search 'Maple Bar" and Google gives you the one on the right.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Google is Liberal Commies.

...next...

I would suspect that google came up with a lot more than that pic when searching on Long John. It also came up with this: http://www.longjohn.com/
Logic rejected.

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

LOL.

Posted by: kmccune---------------------

A maple bar is a solid piece of maple candy!

Posted by: holeshot---------------------

It's a Long John. Never even heard of a Maple Bar - must be an east coast thing......

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

east coast thing?!?! Yeah, Idaho has one of the most beautiful Atlantic coastlines

Oh yeah, and if it has chocolate on it, it's a chocolate donut. Or a chocolate maple bar.

Posted by: cnielse5---------------------

what? no atlantic coastline in northern Idaho? Pred I grew up in southern Idaho and I remember swimming in the atlantic all the time, and in certain parts of the state you go go swimming in the pacific too.

Posted by: taraker---------------------

A coronary

Posted by: JPIVEY---------------------

It's a Maple Bar...............Damn, I really am a commie

Posted by: JPIVEY---------------------

Stop pick'n on Elk

LMAO, Belly missle, never heard that one before

Posted by: shiftless---------------------

In Illinois, there is no distinction between a chocolate, vanilla or maple - Long John. It most definitely is not a bear claw. Bear Claws are more irregular in shape and have raisins in them, no creme filling. Pokie is not fussy as he will eat any of the above and be a happy man.

i had a bear claw today, it had apple filling. i've never seen a bear claw with raisins.

the section with the subject pastries was labeled "long john". then it was divided between maple and chocolate. but i still voted for maple bar because that's what i've always called them.

Posted by: ChopperDave---------------------

All of you are terribly wrong, and I'm a little shocked at the lack of culinary knowledge that has been so blatantly displayed! That very clearly, my friends, is a meatloaf!!!

Posted by: Thump---------------------
