Sheared Off HeadBolts??

Was out riding this weekend and bike was idling fast. Then stopped at lunch break to have a closer look, and saw oil around bottom of cylinder. Noticed front bolt on left was sheared off, then looked at left side and front nut was missing and back bolt was sheared off. I had done topend in winter (1 and 1/2 years ago) and torqued the nuts to spec. Was going to redo this winter anyway, but luckily I noticed it at the truck and not 30 miles out in the bush. I do a check of a lot of the moving parts before I load up the bike, but never noticed the cylinder bolts before.
Has anyone ever had this happen??
How could this happen?? Maybe one nut came off and put stress on the others??
Anyway, I hope no permanent damage.
