(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Ok,lets make some riding plans if possible,Lars interested in Gopher dunes, its just a thought at this point since I haven't heard back from Chalie. Is gopher open this weekend? Cena if it ends up we go to Gopher we can pick you up on the way I think. I'm open to suggestions

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I think gophers is open on sat but on sunday there hosting some private club race. Yea if I get my bike parts friday don't forget about me if you go.

Wish my friend would hurry up I wanna catch some Samon

Posted by: mike black---------------------

hey boys

you want to ride? just let me know where and when!!
the web site is www.gopherdunes.com if you want to find out if they are open or not or just call them at 519-842-2781
mike

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

I'm going crazy,I need to ride.its been about 3 weeks since I've ridden I don't go riding by myself and it difficult to find people available to ride with.
I've never been to a track but I think it would be a good time.
I think Gopher dunes is about the closest to me so if you don't mind riding with someone who'll be very slow at first I'd like to take you up on a Gopher Dunes ride.

Posted by: mike black---------------------

hey speed freek

the weekend after this one i be going to the dunes see you their?

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

At this point that sounds very good. Two weeks is a long time for me to plan ahead, lol, but I think that sounds like a plan

Posted by: i_955---------------------

I'll be at the Dunes this weekend but only instructing my boy.
I think I'll be 2 wheelin next weekend but I've got lots of strengthening to do, not only on my ankle but also on my knees.
It'll be like being a virgin again, but this time I'm not as excited. Dam, I was at the hight of my season.
If you want someone to be there to pick-up the pieces, I'm there for ya man.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Your young lad will probably ride circles around me on a track, lol

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

I-955 what day were you thinking of going?

Posted by: mike black---------------------

going to the dunes this weekend just on sat for a bit not long at all just want to put some more time in on the track. but the next weekend the 15th and the 16th i'm free!!!!!!!!!! to do what i want and i want to ride! so lets go. gopher dunes at 11:00 am sharp (the track is the best in the morning) so just what day? 15th looks better than i can rest on sunday!
let me know
mike

Posted by: mike black---------------------

hey i_955

you can get your boy to watch me and tell him all the things that i'm doing wrong!!
or help me out, never to old to learn!
mike

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Hey Mike, you are from the area of Gopher dunes, how long of a drive is it to Toronto if you were cruising right around speed limit?

Posted by: i_955---------------------

I hope so that would mean that all the nagging I’ve barking at him has sunk in.
It is his first full year on a bike. Picked the bike up late last fall and he might have a dozen rides on it this season. That is exactly what he needs, to pass a big bike. Passing little 50/70/110 four strokes is so last month.

Definitely Saturday unless it is raining. Mind you, the Dunes is the place to ride when it’s raining. Prob is I’M NOT RIDING!!!!!
My dad is coming in from out of town to see the Grandboy ride for the first time. But if he can’t make it here by 10:00am, the boat is departing (long boring story). As our good friend mike black has stated, the track is best in the morning…

It’s going to be awfully hard for him to watch you Mike when he’s ahead of you
Or, your going to look terribly funny riding that monster 450 on the kiddy track

I can take a stab at that.
Depending where is Toronto you are?
I’m in Cambridge and it takes me 1hr 10minutes at about 110km/hr. I have made it there in 55 minutes, but that was when gas was cheap and we got off a bit late.
So add what ever time it takes you to get from you to me to 1hr10…

PS. I ride with a lad with the same bike as you. Pretty sure he has a 89 YZ250.

Posted by: mike black---------------------

hey their speedfreek
the dunes is at least 2/h away for you. if you want to you could meet me in kitchner at the homer watson cut off at the tim's and dive down together.
so as of right now gophers on the 15 of oct no if and's or buts.
o and seedfreek make shure that you have oil on your air filter!!! LET GO RIDING!!!
i_955 you going to be up for a ride on the 15th? i got passed by a crf250 that a 14 year old was riding!! ya i was pissed but he was really good.

Posted by: i_955---------------------

Hehehe. I got passed by a kid on a 85 the week before "the incident".
When I took my helmet off, I could hear the little ******* say, awe it's just an old man. I had to laugh, I held him off for a couple laps. He was covered in roost. What, I am 205lbs with me gotchies on, it takes some wheel spin to get me up on plain.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

This sounds like it will be fun
"if you want to you could meet me in kitchner at the homer watson cut off at the tim's and dive down together. "
I'll have to wait and find out if a friend of mine will be tagging along with his bike. The offer sounds good though, thanks.
I thought it would be around a 2hr drive so I guess I was right on the money
"PS. I ride with a lad with the same bike as you. Pretty sure he has a 89 YZ250" I have a few friends with 1989 yz250 as well. as a matter of fact I have two of these bikes, both have been rebuilt from top to bottom and both have more modern 46mm inverted forks
The main place I ride is mostly sand so I know how much nicer the sand will be early in the day so you can count on me probably being first one there on the 15th

Posted by: mike black---------------------

the 15th it is !!!
you boys know the way? well if not i'll meet you in kitchener at 9:40am
mike

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Do you guys ever ride the trails at gophers? or just the track?

Do any of you guys go down Hwy 24 towards Brantford?

Posted by: mike black---------------------

the gopher trails are ok but they really dont go any where just a bunch of turns.
24 to brantford? why they got trails there?

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

hey Cena, you lookin' for a ride to track next weekend? Let me find out who's vehicle i'll be traveling in and if you aren't too far out of the way we'll pick you up. No promises yet,but i will check into it

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Yea Id like to come, If someone can pick me up. I might not be able to go though i'm booked to take a hunting course 1 of these weeks. I got money for gas.

I think I found 1 place to ride some trails on 24 Hwy. But I was mostly wondering if you took that way. I know 24 goes into cambridge and a guy I work for lives on 24 and I might have been able to get my bike down there on tuesday.

Posted by: mike black---------------------

where on 24 does your boss live? near cambrige?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

No, he's more up towards brantford. Just off Governors road.

Posted by: mike black---------------------

ya thats kind of far for me to go sorry man

Posted by: Milhaus---------------------

Well, just got back from the weekend riding at the in-laws farm. They actually arranged for us to use the neighbours farm (no new growth, about 96 acres with rolling hills...Had some good rips even though it was mostly hard pack. Played with some wheelie hops (got it on to video, just have to figure out how to get it onto a PC). Only bad thing was, hit a rock while doing a turn, back end slid out, handlebars twisted severely, punching me in the ribs before I got launched...landed on my head, sounded like the bill on the helmet broke but it didnt. But got an instant headache the second my noggin hit the ground. Ouch. Havent had that happen since I got a concussion in a hockey game.
But didnt seem to do much damage to bike or bucket.
After a few mins of rest, rode again, but my heart/head wasnt in it.
ALso the CR is running sickly rich, spooge everywhere, so have to re-jet or put in a Kehin before the next ride.
Blasted around on the KX as well, weiord bike....1st gear is non existent, 2-3 make tons of power, and 4th/5th are pretty strong. I honestly dont htink the top end power on this bike is far off from the CR. But the low end is another story

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

You guys all still in check for Saturday? It's suppose to be a 40% chance of lite drizzle on Friday if we get that Saturday should be real good in the sand.

Posted by: mike black---------------------

I'm going i'll be leaving the hommer watson cut off in kitchener at 10:00 or sooner on october the 15th. u b there?

Posted by: mike black---------------------

look up crf 450 r and an 04 Dodge Ram 1500 grey with after market tail lights the 400ex will be staying in the box of the truck so that might give me away

Posted by: mike black---------------------

hey boys

http://media.putfile.com/Time-to-Play-the-Game76

Note: This person has never been to a dirt bike track before! Hehehe.
Hey, I’ve been there, face down on the kiddy track. And, when I did it the place was packed.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

I'm still not sure guys. Looks like I won't know until the last moment. Mike can you e-mail me directions to the track? That way if I can't make I won't be holding you up? What do you guys think this place is like for breaking in a new motor?

Posted by: i_955---------------------

I broke 2 of them in there last weekend.
There are no big hills and it's not deep sand so I'd say it is perfect.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

i am interested so give me directions

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

guys i want to gou out to innerkip on saturday but need directions so post them or call the cell 905 928 6157

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

You guys still going? By the sounds of the weather man it's gonna be a soaker. issed:

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

I'm in for a soaker, wish I could see a map of the directions so I could understand them a bit better. I really don't want to drive all that way just to be lost

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Maybe you should meet up with Chris in Hamilton and take 1 vehicle out there.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Oh God, I don't want to drive in Hamilton again,

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

It's alot worse if you get lost out in the country all them gravel backroads

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

I am going to sleep now however if you (speedfreak) would like to meet up in the morning somewhere at around 10:30 that is coll with me. just post or call the cell after 9 am im tired and buzzed pretty good so im going to sleep

mike

Posted by: i_955---------------------

Yep, I too had a blast.
Considering this was my 2nd ride in 12 weeks I think I did pretty good.
Mike and I did 8 to ten really fine laps together until I ran out of steam. Maybe next time I'll attempt a pass on the outside. I'm going to have to get out ahead of you early Mike, I was totally target fixated on the huge dent in your muffler lap after lap after lap. hehehe

It was really nice to meet you lads. To bad the rest of yous couldn't make it. We'll do it again I'm sure.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

mike

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

what not up for any winter rides?

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Mike was mentioning an indoor track, could be pretty handy during winter

Posted by: i_955---------------------

I can't recall any particular incident that "rebroke" the bone. There were several "dam that hurt" moments
and I did sprain it 3 or 4 times during physio
which they said was normal after not using the ankle for 8 weeks. But F****!!!!

Oldschooldeathwish, I'm definitely up for some winter riding.

http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/286632/
http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/286634/

After 14 weeks this Friday plus no less than 5 more, I am totally looking forward to the Indian Summer for my return debut.
I've got 2 1/2 boxes of cold cutters ready for installation!!!!! And a lake 5 minutes from my house.
Anyone have a plow?
I don’t think I’ll do just the ice oval, the studs are pretty handy on the trails to but a rounded stud on ice might be more slippery than hot rubber… Anyone have ice experience?

Speedfreek, The indoor track is on permanent hold.
$500,000.00 for a used tent was a little more than the owners were expecting. This is only a rumor I've pulled out of cyberspace so take it as that but the dirt at ground zero hasn't broken yet, so that you can take to the bank...

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

That looks like some fun winter riding you had there i_955! Do you just ride country roads in the winter?

Posted by: i_955---------------------

It is fun any time one gets to throw a leg over a bike.
I'm much like a bike whore, I'll ride anything, any time, any where.
I do hate mud holes with F-in quad ruts tho. To me they are a no win situation, or they always win.

I prefer riding lakes in the winter but am going to try some trails with studded knobbies.

I took the Zed out on a lake last winter but didn't have studs yet. It was about -5 out, with a -15 wind chill. I was totally sweat soaked after 1/2hr riding. It was a total blast getting up to speed then snow blind (unable to see drifts) smash into a 3' drift. Then try to keep momentum and not get stuck. It was fun but it would be way more fun with traction.
Regarding the picture, I don’t have insurance to ride the roads, that one shot of me on the road was a laneway. Even if I did have insurance and came around a corner like that a copper would have taken my license on the spot so I don’t know what would be worse really, getting caught with or without...

We went to trail ride but as the day wore on, it got warmer. The snow got really packy and anytime my front wheel got off a sled trail, I would lose total control. Hopefully studs will fix that.

I remember the pictures of you and Oldschool last winter. That was very cool and hope to get an invite this winter… No running shoes this time tho, right?

Hows the bike coming?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Yea I found a few pics of are ride last year. It was some old ripped out train tracks that started in Hagersvilles where they end who knows. The old train tracks are pretty nice to ride in the winter but i'm going to be dressed for it this year.

http://home.cogeco.ca/~lleepp/00870007.jpg

http://home.cogeco.ca/~lleepp/00870009.jpg

The yz still needs the engine fixed. And some new bushing for the lower shock linkage and a new bushing for the top of the shock.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Hey,when do you plan to get the motor to me John ?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Id like to get it to you real soon. I don't no what Chris is up too. I think he's busy working and going to school. I think he only gets some spare time on the weekends. I hope maybe we can come this Sat or Sun cause after that i'll be going away for atleast another week. Then I gotta go for my hunting course.

Do you know if a 93 yz 250 cylinder with the 93 piston would work on this YZ?

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Nope,it wouldn't work. I believe where the exhaust mounts on the cylinder you have an outtie and if memory serves me correctly the 93 has an innie. Make sense? Why do you want a differant cylinder?

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I was just wondering for maybe some future tuning. The 93 might have more low end I not sure. all the YZ cylinders up till 94 have the outtie exhaust. From what i've been reading the 88YZ engine was very powerful.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Well if you use a 91- 97 cylinder, it will be set up for a stroke of 68.8mm and a 125mm connecting rod. 88-90 used 68mm stroke. 88-89 used 130mm rod and 90 used 125mm rod. So if you use a 91 or newer cylinder the port timing will be set up for a longer stroke so I doubt they would give you any bottom end power with out some work.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

the 88 cylinder will work, but you'll need the 88 reed cage and carb rubber, plus the 88 powervalve and linkage. I tried a 88 cylinder and I didn't like it.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Could I just throw in a connection rod or a crank from the same model as the cylinder 93? It don't really matter it's just some ideas for way down the road. For Chrismas though I think i'm gonna get a divider plate put in the carb and a reed cage spacer, go down from a 15 counter sprocket to a 14.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

yup, throwing a crank in from the same model would do it.They aren't cheap though. For Christmas buy yourself some jets and get it dialed on the jetting, you'll be much happier

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

hey lee I can run that engine up today and probably tommorow as long as ive got enough cash for the gad

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Cool Thanks! Either today or tommorow what evers best for you. But i'm real sick. I can give you $20 for gas. Whats a gad?

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

gad is a typo for gas. have you got that cold everyone else has/had that just drags on forever ive got do get speedfreaks address from him then

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Yea this cold is deadly, i've had it for almost 2 weeks.

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

same one i had it will probably drag on for anothe 2

Posted by: mike black---------------------

hey guys!

I just got back from gopher dunes and it was awsom the track was mint! i love that track it changes every 20 min you got to go try it !

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

ill run the engine down monday ive got some things i need to take care of here today

Posted by: mike black---------------------

Posted by: Oldschooldeathwish---------------------

Posted by: mike black---------------------

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------
