Yamaha 1984 TT600 Carb Issue

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: yozuri---------------------

Have aquired a TT600 that has not been run in 15 years! Pulled and cleaned carb, engine compression tests OK, changed oil and filter, adjusted valves and decomp lever, put in new spark plug, did shop manual diag on pickup and regular coils (test OK). The standard plug cap seems to have too much resistance and when bypassed I get a much hotter spark - do they go bad a lot? Can I just use a standard plug boot with no resistor? Also the bike will start (what a mutha to kick over!) but will not idle and dies when throttle is applied. I suspect more carb stuff (idle circuit still clogged?)- does anyone know the factory setting for the idle mixture screw - the manual just says "preset" I have it at 1 1/2 out. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
