Nikki & Red ...
Yeah, Nikki embarrased a lot of us by hammering the big step-up moments later.

Posted by: YZ165---------------------

As I'm sure you'll hear from Thump, I'm one of the wuss bags that didn't jump the big step up........next year. I just saved it for next year, yea that's it......

Posted by: Thump---------------------

Well obviously you did'nt need to hit it to beatme in the race.... damn the me... next year, yeah thats it, next year.

Posted by: YZ165---------------------

Kinda hard to say I beat you in a race when you were taking a fuggin nap in the first turn......

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Kris Brown... got a couple laps in before wadding it big time at the top of the big uphill straight.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Corndog, trying his best to get around the off-camber:

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

I never did find-out who this is, but he's no-doubt having fun

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Another Nikki shot;

Will on the step-up

Posted by: biglou---------------------

#41 RMZ450 Suzuki is "Corndog". Dave rides #32 RM250.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Ugg.

Posted by: biglou---------------------

And Red looks pissed off! What did you do?

Posted by: oldguy---------------------

That pic of Will on the big stepup is honestly the first picture I have ever seen that really shows how big it really is

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Reddog:

Motometal, eyeing the step-up:

Posted by: tx246---------------------

will looks like spiderman in that gear.............

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Spiderman...I thought that was Carlo. He should have worn that spider all weekend. I only saw it at the barrel races.

It was actually a bit "bigger" this year. Earlier in the week before Kris re-worked it, I sat at the top looking down, and thought to myself "there is no way this is the same jump I was clearing last year". Well, this thing just looks big no matter what, but like you said pictures usually don't do it justice.

This year, on my "loser/obsolete" two stroke it takes about 90% to clear it even when I square up the corner and get a good run, where last year it was more like 80%, not sure specifically what's different though.

Posted by: Vic---------------------

Just the picture of that step-up has me quivering.

Posted by: ChopperDave---------------------

That whole track made me nervous, and I like hill climbing!

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Those new 4-strokes....

The big step-up:

It was bigger this year no doubt. Last year I could cruise up the approach in 4th, let off for a second, then gas it on the takeoff. This year I shifted to 4th and held her open until I was airborne. It was pretty easy Thursday morning, I saw Will P hit it using the middle line and I was able to make about 15 clean passes. Then in the tag-team MX race, I hit it both laps in the middle line and clipped my back tire on the landing both times as the approach was getting choppy. I shoulda stopped there, but Thursday afternoon, I watched a few locals on 450's hit some different lines (since the middle one was spent) and I decided to try a new line. All was good, until I got kicked in the last few feet. Went off sideways, came up short, and got ejected. Ouch. Had to rest up most of Friday, until I found buko's pain pills.

Posted by: Crunch---------------------

I found that the most adventageous way on my KDX was to lug up the thing!

Posted by: Vic---------------------

I'm not as skeered now that I've seen it from that viewpoint.

Posted by: motometal---------------------

the already-high comittment level gets even higher as the approach gets rougher.

Posted by: tx246---------------------

maybe we can get kenny to bring his foam pit contents to the big step up and spread it out around the "landing zone" of that stepup.

Posted by: David Bird---------------------

Sorry to hear about your misfortune on that monster Nick. I tried it Thursday morning thinking I knew the speed it took to get over it and came up really short. I did a half nac-nac trying to get off my bike on the first bounce but never got away from it. After the first ugly attempt I was determined to get over it clean. I made it fine, but as the approach got roached I quit all together. It ended up costing me a few spots on the tag-team & Saturday's MX, but at least the only thing I went home with was some beat up & tired hands.

1000 hours, briefing for the 500 ride. As you can see, Okie got word there were trees to be ridden through. You can just see the excitement in his eyes. "You better tuck in those piggies, there's stumps among us."

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Hey now, I hope I made the woods guys proud by doing the last several miles with that broken piggy!

I'm just glad you didn't ride my bike.

Posted by: brit yz125---------------------

I would love to try that step up! Could anything be arranged for DW for me to hire a bike If I came over? So jealous.

Hmm.. if I could convince my girlfriend that this would be a holiday...
That's good to know I could borrow a bike though, thanks a lot. Have to make it over 1 year.
