any one?

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

have you had a chance to ride any of these bikes? or bikes like these?

Posted by: rm125#96---------------------

ive ridden a 99 cr 125 a 2002 yz250f and some 250s and 450s and thats about it and i love em all!

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

OK, so you've tasted 2 stroke and 4 stroke. Which appealed to you more?

Posted by: rm125#96---------------------

it all depends i supose if i put a litle bit more time on the two smoker i would get used to the no bottum end and the hard hit of the powerband but i wouldnt have a problem with either of them the only thing that i really like about the two strokes is that the maintnence is so simple and easy compared to the four strokes not that i have a problem with that i consider my self to be prety good with these kinds of things
would the 125 have problems keeping up with the 250f cause the guysthat i mostly will be riding with have 450s and 250s so i wouldnt mind being able to do some of the things that they are doing when we go to the track to practice

Posted by: rm125#96---------------------

and when i get the bike i dont plan on leaving it stock so that is another reason i kinda like the two stroke over the four (its cheaper to put aftermarket on the two smoke) but the fourstroke stock has more power i heard than the two stroke

Personally I would never buy a second hand racing 4 stroke but that is your decision. Not sure what part of Canada you are in but in Manitoba the prices for the all three of those CR125's is ranging from way over to slightly over priced although each market is different. For the 4 strokes about the 04 KX250F is the only one priced in the ballpark as most guys are trying to get rid of their 05's right now for between $5200 and $5500.

so you dont think that a two stroke is the way to go?

Not sure how you get that from .....

We are still a 2 stroke family because I've seen too many racing seasons destroyed by $2500 engine rebuild bills for grenaded 4 strokes. The time is coming when we will have to decide between having my son on a comparable bike or racing strictly for the fun without worrying about everyone else having an advantage before the gate even drops.

Posted by: rm125#96---------------------

whoops i miss read that but out of the adds that i listed before what do you think is the best deal out or the 125s?

Posted by: Chili---------------------

The 05 KX is the only one that has a price in the ballpark of what I would consider and given the time of season I'd likely work him a bit more on that one as well. One of our buddies just let go his 05 KX125 for $4800 with a PC pipe and Silencer, vforce 3 rad valve and Renthal Fat Bars with O/S bar mounts. And this was a bike with next to no hours on it since the rider was hurt most of the season. That selling price is also the reason my son will be racing his 05 RM125 one more season because I can't even think about selling it for that price with the low hours on it.

Posted by: rm125#96---------------------

yah but that kx 125 was brand new still on the show room floor

Posted by: Chili---------------------

That's decent then, I'd probably pursue that one.

Posted by: rm125#96---------------------

but what if i could get a better deal on that 2001 cr 125 for 3500 i like that one because its got some aftermarket stuff on it already but i also havent heard the greatest things about the 98 to 2004 cr125s what is your oppinion

Posted by: n_w t_ b_kes---------------------

Well if all of those are priced in canadian dollars, then they aren't priced too bad.

Posted by: Chili---------------------

Take my advice fwiw on price. I paid $3500 for an 02 RM250 15 months ago already so I still say those prices are high especially for this time of year. I would much rather have a new off the showroom floor 05 stock than a roached out 5 year old bike because it has a pipe and a few other goodies on it. Odds are none of the aftermarket stuff on that CR will make you any faster and you will own a 5 year old bike that could likely need hundreds to thousands of dollars in parts to make it a decent bike. When was the clutch, chain, sprockets, tires, top end and bearings last replaced on the CR? Odds are it needs at least one or two things on that list which could run you anywhere from $100 to $1000+ to put into a 5 year old bike. I understand the economics of buying a used bike as I keep getting used while the new bike money goes into my son's race bikes but when I buy used it's a bike I know personally and at a much better bargain than any of the ones you've posted here. I haven't ridden a CR125 in over 20 years but I've heard the same thing you are alluding too.

I agree with Chili on not getting a 2nd hand 4 stroke bike - the higher tuned MX bike engines tend to require regular maintainance to keep them in good shape + they are mighty expensive if the let go.

The RM and the KX 250's got great reviews in 05 and Honda always seems popular.
