What do you think of the CRF250X

OK. I got a lot of helpful info from you guys and have been in contact with a dealer. He recommends a CRF250X for me. I am 5-10 and 270lbs. (Yeah, I know I could stand to lose a few but hey, thats what this is for ;-) I plan on riding fields, trails, and some tracks with friends. At this time there is no future of racing. I have to buy 5 bikes, you heard me right, 5 of them. I am narrowing down my selection one at a time, and I am first so what do you think with this selection for me? I used to ride a TRX250X and raced it a bit, but those days are long gone. I ride a Yamaha Road Star weekly.

Great bike. Buy it.

The CRF250X is a great bike for trails and other fun stuff. The only thing I had to do with mine was put heavier springs in the susp to match my wt., 265lbs. I can assure you, you will enjoy the X!

What mods did you do? Being you and I are similar in weight?

Posted by: ChopperDave---------------------

I got the bike brand new and I have only changed the springs. Everything else has been perfect! I have over 300 miles on it and have no desire to spend alot of money on mods.(especially since they offer only slight improvements)

The 250X was perfect right off the showroom floor!

What spring did you get or would recommend?

Posted by: ChopperDave---------------------

I don't remember which springs I had put in the forks?

Here is a link to RaceTech-
http://www.racetech.com/evalving/menu/searchdirt.asp

Click on the red highlighted spring rate calculator and follow the instructions. In about ten seconds you will know what springs you need.

Also the shop where you have the springs replaced(if you don't do it yourself) can find out which springs you need.

BTW, the bike comes set-up for a 175lb rider. Not good for big folks like us!!!

Hey Dave...I gave my X a face lift this week. Remember the broken front fender? I have been buying new plastic little by little over the last several months (mine is pretty scratched up after riding/crashing in the woods for the last 2 years)with the intent of changing it all at one time. I debated on changing it out for dirt week but decided not to....I'm glad I didn't b/c I would have a broken "NEW" front fender. Now it's looking good with new fenders front and back, radiator shrouds, a trick solid black seat cover, and one of those personalize FX front number plates.

Family Guy...if you plan on buying 5 bikes...for the wife and kids...?? Try the X out and if it's too small, slow, etc. maybe you can pass it on to one of the others. That way you will still get to ride it as a second bike.

This year (06)?

Odd, the only valve train I've ever had a problem with was a YZF. Going on my third CRF.

Posted by: ChopperDave---------------------

After 350 miles on the X, my valves are still "spot on."

No valve problems with my X. Seems there are a lot of people out there that have not owned a CRF talking about the valve issues. The 250 X is a great bike
