125's Best All Around?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

To anyone who can help me. I think I remember Eric saying that the 125s were the best all around bike. I may be making stuff up, but if I am not, is there a thread or link to where it was said? I am looking into a 125 for woods/cross country and I just want to see what Mr. Gorr has to say. Thanks a million!

I can't speak for Eric but I think it's highly unlikely that a 125 2 stroke would be the recommendaton of choice for Woods/Cross country.

If you want a light and fun bike to ride a 125 is great.

I'd say that the 250cc 2-stroke bikes are the best/most-capable all around.

The 125s suffer in deep sand and deep mud. The 500s vibrate and wear you out faster. I tend to like more power then a typical CR/YZ/KX.RM250, so I gravitate towards the CR/KX500. For a new bike it'd be a KTM300.

Personally, I may be biased but I believe the 200 two-stroke is one of the best woods bikes. It has near the same power as a 250 two-stroke, yet maintains the light feel of a 125. 125s have to be ridden hard (for the most part) as the low end is a little lacking. My bike makes good low end, but will scream too. I really think there's something to be said for smaller two-strokes and off road riding.

The 200's are ideal for desert racing. Some of the fastest overall desert racers use the 200cc exacto sharp bikes. But the 200's still do come up short at the dunes.

Well, i think the best is the yz125.
