RMX250 vs KDX250

whats a better bike ? round 91-94 last years of the KDX250 vs those same years of the RMX250 ?

I have never owned or ridden a KDX250. But I owned a 90 KDX200 and my brother owned a 88 RMX250 at the same time. We swapped bikes many times and we both much prefered the 200. In our opinion my 90 200 with FMF pipe and silencer and suspension mods was a much better all around trail bike. The RMX250 never felt any faster, just heavier.

I would recommend the RMX 250 over the KDX 250. I am in the process of restoring and uncorking a 96 RMX 250 that I recently bought. The bike was stock and prior to buying it I rode it briefly up and down the street. My impression is my modified KDX had more ponies. However, the RMX had a worn piston and rings. The RMX had a very natural riding feel to it, but the KDX felt lighter. The RMX is just like the KDX in the sense you have to modify it to get the performance from it. The RMX was quite the bike in the 90's once modified. The KDX 250 never had that reputation that I could find.

the rmx is more like a race bike with lights and more flywheel weight.

1989 was the first year for the RMX. Prior to that it was the PE model which was nothing to write home about.

Why dont you research availability and price of spares for each of the bikes and base your decision on that ?

It's all about the set-up. I had a very well dialed in '91 KDX250 and my buddy had a well set up '92. In stock condition, the KDX250 needs some serious TLC (Kawasaki did not do a good job with supsension or jetting). After mods and set-up, I much preferred my KDX250 to my '90 KDX200 (also well dialed in) though in stock condition the 200 was probably better than the 250.

I have ridden well set up RMX 250's (susension revalve, jetting, pipes, steering dampers, etc...) of various years and they were very comparable to a dialed in KDX250. Perhaps SLIGHTLY better than the modded KDX250, but not by much. Stock to stock, the Suzuki is usually better. Bottom line is the KDX250 needs some work to get the most out of it. If you are not prepared to finish what the factory started, get another bike.

Don't get me wrong.I am a KDX fanatic.Here in S.A we had the KDX250 on the market a few years ago but if wasn't vey popular.To much work and money needed to get the performance up

The RMX250S is the bike to ride out here in Japan if you are wanting a street legal enduro Suzuki 250.

The KDX250SR which I ride is a heavier bike but with the proper dialing in will put out just as much power as the RMX and the CR.

I rode a friends CR250AR around a track the other week and was very impressed with the handling. Look into that option as well if you have the CR250AR where you live.
