James Embro, from Alpharetta, Ga., had this to say on his 11th place finish today in the 2006 Dakar rally:

1/14/2006 - 8:29 A.M. - JAMES HAS FINISHED 11th IN STAGE 14! While most of the favorites had navigation difficulties today, James said that he had no trouble following the road book. Just like a roll chart we use in enduros, the road book indicates the turns and landmarks that must be followed. James said that this stage reminded him of the Capitol City enduro at Tallahassee Fl, and the stage was easy for him. At present, his overall standing is at position 56.

So far James has been on the course for 83 hrs., 38 min., 36 sec.; covered 8933 km. (5551 mi.); and has one day left to make it to Dakar. He has, however, spent many hours stopped to assist several injured or broken down riding comrades of his. Awesome effort from a rookie, working guy!
Any of you that have ever met James know what a great guy he is. Congratulate him when you see him next time.

I don't mean to understate the performances of the other USA riders still in the rally. Especially Red Bull/KTM USA factory rider Chris Blais, currently 6min.30 sec. behind 3rd place multi-time world and ISDE champion Giovanni Sala, in 4th place overall! Chris has scored a 2nd and a 3rd in recent stages. Privateer Rally Pan American Jonah Street is currently in 17th OA & has also scored a 2nd & a 3rd in recent stages. Jonah's Rally Pan American teammate Mike Krynock is in 84th place after 14 days of competition.

GREAT JOB by ALL!

BTW, how many of YOU can imagine riding a KTM big bore for 5551 miles in 14 days (actually 13) on ANY kind of terrain?
