Two stroke that is. 05 YZ 250 in the shop. I'm syched up!

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

Congrats
What made you go back?? Im close on buying a bike, one thing that has kept me from a thumper is cost of maintenance..
Congrats on teh new scoot

Posted by: CaNaDiAn,Eh?---------------------

That is awesome!!! Did you not like the fourstroke, or did you just decide it was time for a change?

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

I missed the explosive response of the two stroke. I still love the big thumper but I'm ready for a change.

Posted by: wardy---------------------

LOL don't let to many read this, we seem to be in the minority, of course now if you look at that pole more in here have non diesels........now we have to convert you to "red"

:P

Nothing like a new scoot in the garage. Congrads Brian!

Posted by: KX02---------------------

Congrats! Great sound, light weight, easy to work on...it's the wave of the future!!!

I thought your quad was a thumper? Did you get a Banshee or something?

Congrats Swift. I figured you would have gone with the 250F as well as you got along with it at Noconna.

Posted by: kmccune---------------------

Congrats on the new bike

Posted by: biglou---------------------

Nice bike!

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

The 250F's seem to be having quite a few valve issues. If I could have and KEEP two bikes, I would have a 250F and a 250.
Wardy, does someone make red plastic for my YZ? That would look cool. LOL I do like the Hurricane kit.

Posted by: Zerotact---------------------

When we going riding? I got my 525SX last weekend that thing is a hoot to ride.. Till you stall it and have to kick it..

Posted by: jsned---------------------

Just traded a Ktm400 EXC 2002 for a 2004 YZ250 that is almost new. I can see the pros and cons of both bikes, but I do think I will have a better chance in the VET A HS races in dist 17 on the Yamaha. Might not be as fun just trailriding. but oh well.

Posted by: crashnburn---------------------

Congrats on the smoker, when you going to go riding, just got my suspension back and I am itchin to see if it was money well spent.

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

I just rode the bike in the back pasture. WooHOO! I have a small double and I had forgotten how easy the two strokes fly. Overshot the landing the first time but the suspension soaked up the hit. The bike has a bit of head shake and I think I'll go up a tooth on the rear sproket. The power is much smoother than I had expected but very controlable. The wife's horse forgot what a two stroke was, so we had a drag race. He wants another shot at me I'm sure.

Posted by: wardy---------------------

I know "red" is out of the question, hell i was a die hard Maico guy for better part of dam near 20 years. new bike is always cool no matter the color or even the strokes. new is new.

Thump I mow grass with my quads so I don't consider them a "recreational" tool. basically they are just a "tool"......................implied intent.

Posted by: DWreck---------------------

Cool. You don't waste time wanting do you? I can't wait to ride it (you know to make sure everything is ok on it).

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

It is not woods ready but I will be ready to make the transition.
Sunday evening after I got back from riding, I told the wife about the bike and that they had lowered the price $600. She said to get it! If the dealership had been open at 6:00 pm Sunday night I would have been there it a flash! I about fell out my chair when she said to buy it.

I guess I have to follow tradition and come up with a name for the 250. I'll have to get a feel for its personallity but suggestions will help. LOL

Posted by: JWW---------------------

welcome back to the light side. I also switched back last year.

Very nice choice for a come back bike.

How about "The Dingo" You know.. ring-ding-ding-ding-ding... then you go... the dingo.

Wardy, I used to weed wack with a 2-stroke and my chainsaw is a 2-stroke... Does that qualify them as rec tools or just plain ole tools.

Posted by: crazy4nitro---------------------

Ahh the smell of Two Stroke....

Crazy

Posted by: Danman---------------------

Congrats!

I know, but my name doesn't have MX for a refix.
If I had your natural ability on the track I might not ride in the woods.

Elk might not want to be around me if I use that name.

Posted by: WaltCMoto---------------------

Congrats on the new toy Brian. You just renewed my faith in my smoker!

Posted by: tx246---------------------

poor ole mx547 is writhing in agony as ive slowly morphed his many moto win bike into a woods machine. lets see.........ive added a 3 gallon tank, msr brush guards, trail tech computer, forest service apporoved spark arrestor, heavy oring chain, heavy maxxis tires (very flat resistant), a 12 oz flywheel on the way. all i need is a kickstand to complete it. it still does fine on the track. mx547 and i did some time on a track last weekend and by looking at the video, im not too spodley on it.

brian........i want to ride your new bike. are you thinking of equipping it with a rekluse a la butch? i havent ridden his but like the idea that you can still slip the clutch to get things spinning faster.

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

TX246, I haven't called Rekluse yet. I hear that they can substitute a couple of parts, add the manual overide, and perch adjuster to the autoclutch on my 450F to make it fit my 250, but I have not confirmed this. I'm going to try to do the suspension this next week. I haven't decided whether or not to add a FMF gnarly pipe but the Sparky will be added. Steering damper mounts will be ordered when I decide on triple clamp with fatbar mounts or stay with stock and twinwalls.
The oversize tank is in my thoughts but no hurry on it. I really liked the IMS tank that was on the Mamba and the Clark on my 450F is OK but not as nice as the IMS.
Spockets and Chain will be changed today as will the rear tire. The previous owner put 756's on but he rode it on the pavement alot so the rear tire is worn. This bike has between 5-10 hours on it.

Posted by: wardy---------------------

If I could find the link and then know how to post it, there would be a "chain saw" for ya........Lets not talk to much about "tools" in here, gomer is back with a vengence.

these are old but some of you may not have seen these.

Posted by: 927---------------------

you need clutch plates, center push peice , and cable. switched my yz450f to yz250 06 works great

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

Wardy, that was good. I hadn't seen that one. 927, thanks for the info, I'll have to give Rekluse a call.
