Anyone have any suggestions how to polish my case casings?
Keep all my plastics nice and waxed, but them casings are looking a bit sad.
Is there a layer of paint applied during production ?

They most likely have been powdercoated clear... or maybe clear anodized. But I think our KDX is actually painted silver grey. Anyway, if yours is aluminum, I would get some mothers polish or some other metal polish and clean them up by hand. I wouldn't recommend a drill or dremel since it will most likely leave marks. Just concentrate on the bad spots. If you wanted to clear coat them you could. But it will not last. I made the mistake of stripping the side cases on my 400EX and polishing them. Oh, what a bunch of time and effort! For awhile it looked great, but the more I rode, the more grey they became and honestly, they started to pit. The only way to stop it is to seal the aluminum. (and don't ride with boots
) In my case, it was difficult to stay ahead of the corrosion since we rode in the woods... not to mention scratches from sand, mud, boots and other stuff while riding. If it had been in the dunes, it would have faired much better.
On my sons quad, a 300ex, we powdercoated the side cases with silver vein. Looked good! But, around the boot area, the coating wore off.
