you can find alot of 125 2 strokes for cheap...

You're stuck at that crappy spot in the teenage years, where you're too big for an 80, on the small side for a 125, and still growing. A KX 100 would be one option, or you have to learn to deal with riding a bike that is a bit on the big side in the 125. For the money you're looking to spend, a 125 would likely be a better choice, as you can get a better bike for that budget. The 250F's are a bit new to have dropped to where a good one can easily be had for that kind of money. You're likely to end up with problems with one fyou can find given your budget.

If you did want to race, the age limits for the classes could pose a problem if you did go with a 100, as depending upon the rules you're racing under, you might be too old for the 100 class, and forced to race it against 125's and 250F's.

I'm 5'5, 140 lbs

125 would be fine. I got an '02 RM125 last year for $1500 and put $500 in the motor to make it a 144.

i doubt youll like the kx 100. im 5'4'', 105lbs., and 13 y/o and on a 00' kx 125. go for a 125. try riding a friends 85 or 125. an 80 and 85 have a pretty big difference in power. a 125 for you would be awesome. ive never heard of anyone ever going from an rm80 to a 250f. itll be way to much power.

I don't agree that the 250f would be way too much power - as far as peak HP numbers, stock 125s and stock 250f's have about the same peak HP. If anything, the 250f would be easier to ride once you got used to it.

However, I prefer the 2 strokes for the "fun factor" as well as the easier and less costly maintenance.

Also, given the amount you want to spend, it would probably be a good idea to stay away from the 4 strokes. . .

I would just ask them when and if they have checked the valves on it. If they havent I would try to work that into the deal for the sale. That way you can have them verify the clearance and check everything out so you will have the peace of mind that the bike is solid before taking it home. If it does need some work you can have them take care of it before taking it home. Just a thought.
