hey guys im looking into getting my first bike. ive riden around on friends bikes so i know somewhat of what im doing but i dont have any extensive riding. i'm around 6ft tall and around 245lbs and was looking at a cr230f. after lookin around, this is the one that came to mind because A) easy to take care of B) price is definatly a factor. i was just wondering what you guys thought of this choice, my main concerns are that i might be a bit big for this bike and because of this i might get bored with its power? if maybe it isnt a good idea what would you suggest for my first bike? thanks alot i appreciate any help

yah u are prolly a bit to small for it maybe look at a crf250x or a kdx 220 and revalve the suspension

An XR400 I've also heard are as rock solid reliable as they come. The price should probably be good too. It'll have more power to lug you around than a 230 for sure I'd say.

When I was looking for another bike (my third), I almost got a CRF-230, I was so close to getting one to, my dad had talked to the salesperson and closed the deal on it, but it had to be ordered and the date kept getting pushed farther and farther back until my dad finally got pissed off and canceled it. I ended up with a KDX 220 and all I can say it THANK GOD. I would have never been happy with the CRF 230, and I am not even close to your size. I love the KDX and really think it would be worth looking into for you. It's the kind of bike that can grow with you, really is a terrific dirtbike.
XR's are great bikes to, I've had two of them and they were both great, reliable fun bikes. In my opinion the KDX is by far a funner bike, but the XR's are really good bikes to, just don't get something as small as the 230.

If you do buy that 230, prepare the for sale ad for a month down the road when you are ready to move onto something else. The bike will feel small, underpowered and undersuspended in very short order. I would look into a larger, more competent bike if I were you.
An XR 250 or 400, the KDX 200 or 220, or something similar would be good choices. You want something with a competent chassis, and decent power for once you gain a bit of riding skill so you don't get bored, but you also don't want anything too powerful and crazy to throw you on your butt the first time you let out the clutch either.

Deppends, how tall are you?, how much do you weigh? personally i think there great bikes if you're a smaller guy but they seam to sit too low for me. I'm 6'3"

hey guys thanks for the quick responses. beleive me i would absolutly love a crf250x but like i said price is a huge factor, i just cant afford a $6000 bike right now, i would also be financing it so that pretty much rules out a used one. also looking through the honda website it doesnt show anymore xr's other than the 650, did they stop selling them? am i just missing it somewhere? electric or kick start makes no difference to me. and i plan on almost exlusivly trail riding at least until i get more confident with my riding. im looking for a max price around $4500 and while it does suck, im ganna have to suffer with something underpowered if i cant find anything in that price range.

The XR line is now the CRF-F line....with the exception of the 650. So there are the serious CRF race bikes and the CRF-F playbikes now. I would really stay away from the 230, even if you dont mind it being underpowered.....the size will get old quick, it will feel so small. I'm only 5'8 and I wouldnt want anything much smaller than my KDX.

DO NOT GET A CRF230!!!
My wife has one and I've ridden it. If you are 6'3" and 245lbs. You are way too big for that bike. Two hours of riding that thing about killed my back. I am still on my first dirt bike and am very happy to have learned on it. It's a DR350.
I would suggest getting a used DR, XR400 or something else comperable. They are big enough for your body with plenty of power at the throttle.
I have been riding for over 3 years and am ready to step up to either a CRF450X or a WR450.
There's my two cents.

Don't get the CRF230F. If you want Honda, look at the CRF250X, XR250R or XR400R. Other good options are the Kawasaki KDX220 and Yamaha WR250F.

thanks for all the input guys, im 6'' not 6''3 but its all good lol, im pretty sure im ganna take the extra step and go with a crf250x which means i have to wait a bit longer to get it but i think ill be worth it in the end. again thanks for everyones input, i cant wait to start riding

Yeah, I rode a CRF 230 all last summer and i got bored of it really fast, i have enough experiance on bikes but this thing seemed like i could run faster most of the time, i am 6' tall and about 185lbs, not overly big and this bike seemed like it was way under-powered. If you are hell bent on a four stroke, i would go for a 250F....its a little more bike and you may not get bored as fast

wow dude first of all... ur HUGE 2nd of all the 230 is a great bike...but really its only good for smaller skinnier ppl im 6'3 160 and it works great because im so small it pulls me easy and the suspension works well again cuz im small but from my experience ive learned how to maneuver it too so IMO a 230 is a bike for skinnier ppl however you i would deffinitely recommend a used crf 230 (r 4 racing x 4 trails)

yeah my dad was going to get one. hes 62 and im 5'4" and i could ride the bike!
