The first ride in Barrie, Apr. 15

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

So, with the hopes that all snow is gone i would like to invite everyone who could possibly make it up here to come. I have already invited a few of my friends from out of town. I am thinking that the 15th of april would be a safe bet. I don'y know about everyone else, but i am going crazy waiting for the snow to go away. The trails in Innisfil are about five minutes from my house so I will be keeping a very close eye on them, to see when they are ready. Anyone who is interested, please reply.........and hopefully we can get a good size group together for a good day out on the trails. I will probably be out there both days (15th & 16th), so either, or both days would be good.

Posted by: MX Junkie---------------------

Isn't there a few practice tracks around your area?

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

well, I have been told that there are three tracks back in the woods off of vetrans drive. I have not been out there, cause i have not had a bike in a few years but i am told that they are pretty good. I want to get a whole bunch of people out there at one time, it would be fun....I know that there is a bunch of guys on here from Kitchener, hamilton, toronto and stuff, thats not a very far drive, an hour and a half....maybe. THE MORE THE MARRIER.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

I ride off vetrans drive all the time, count me in unless something big comes up.

Posted by: plouffster---------------------

Sounds like fun, I might be able to get a few guys out if I'm not out of town. Never ridden out that way yet.

Posted by: chevyss_98---------------------

sounds awesome, just gotta wait to see what exams pop up, and i just got a bike finally, after not having one last season, so ive got some learning to do , but id be interested!!

Posted by: JEEP FARM---------------------

I would be in for that I'm just on the other side of the lake from you in Barrie!

Posted by: killerdwarf717---------------------

I'm in, as long as it's ok to ride there. I dont like it when cops tell me I cant ride.

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

yup, i was looking there the other day and there are NO signs posted so if I don't see them then it must be OK

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Sounds Like A Great Plan Guys! Should be loads of FUN

It's suppose to be around 13C around Sunday 12th in Hamilton

Posted by: Peer Lovell---------------------

Count me in.
I used to ride there a lot, but I heard that the cops were all over the place.
A guy I know was given a ticket last year.

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

Well, i was just there, checking out the scene.....no signs....what was he ticketed for? No insurance? Anyway i live down the street so if we need to i can probably get 15 bikes in my garage so we can outrun them if we need to......HAHAHAHAHA..........kidding, anyway, the more the marrier so tell everyone you guys know and we should have a good time, plus if stuff goes down (which i don't think will) there is lots of spots to ride in Barrie....pretty close by.

Posted by: killerdwarf717---------------------

I have a better idea! Let's go to a place, like RJ's or something. I would like to ride with you guys (and kick your butts) but I WILL NOT ride with insurance, frig it's a dirtbike. And I don't get along too well with cops

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

If you want to ride at RJ's, you have to be a member of the cmrc, I am not............there will be no problems with cops.....i have them aswell, i don't have insurance on my bike either........catch me if you can

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Like Bryan says catch me if you can. I also don't have insurance.

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

I am telling you guys.....there will be no problems, I live 5 mins. down the street, i will be riding my bike up the road to get there, cause i don't have a truck. I have a van but i am trying to spend all of my extra money right now to get all the gear i need to ride, boots, pants and jersy....you know. Can't really afford the hitch right now, but anyone who wants to save me a run in with the cops could swing by my house and pick me up?.....I live the other way down Vetrans Rd. in barrie.....just a thought.........Any hey, anyone who has some extra gear they want to get rid of I am in the market. None the less I will be there on the 15th.........and i hope everyone else will be too

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

Oh, and by the way I-955, that thing looks twisted with those studs on it...........SICK

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

If this is the same place I've be to a few times. You don't wanna be driving up and down the road on your dirt bike or the guy who lives there will call the cops. Just stay in the back where the whoops are and no cops gonna get you.

This is the place with the Theatre down at the end of the sand road on the left?

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

No I will be driving from my house unless i can get someone to pick me up....i only live like five minutes away from the trails..........hopefully someone is feeling generous enough to ppick me up

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

well you would get off on Molson Park dr.....
Head west till you passed walmart and canadian tire...
turn Left on Vetrans dr........
turn Left on salem rd.

YOU ARE THERE

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

what size gear do you need Bryan ?

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

I wear about a 32-34 pants and probably a large jersey....maybe a size 10 boot, any help would be appreciated.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

I think I have a set of MSR system 6 pants here in that size,I'll have to check to make sure though.I'll let you know for sure once I check. If you cut your toes off I have a set of boots in size 8

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

Yeah, that would be sweet, I think the boots would be a little small but I am not sure how they fit.....everything seems to be different, I think my work boots are a size 9 but my shoes are a size 10.5, again, any help would be appreciated......Just dropped $5000.00 on the bike...money is a little tight for the extras, you know?

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

Posted by: jonnyriabov---------------------

I wouldnt really consider boots...as extras...even a blown out pair of boots will be better than work boots......find something.....even ugly boots save toes shins, and ankles.....
You will be able to get boots for nice and cheap from royal distributing down there.....

Ill come ride with you guys in july....as we go to haliburton to the cottage then......
Jonny

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

See if this works.....if it does....is an aireal shot of the trails in Barrie......

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

It looks like it's gonna be 15 Degrees on Saturday and sunny and only 5KM winds. Oh how I wish I could go riding that day.

Posted by: i_955---------------------

How much snow you have in Barrie?

The field I road in for the last couple weekends was mud, and it was on a hill.
Any low lying areas would be swamps.

I wonder if Gopher Dunes plans to open early?
The sand gobbles up the water sooo good.

Posted by: Speedfreek---------------------

Innisfil is mostly sand. Hope I get enough energy this week to put on the new tire.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

I just checked a web cam in Barrie and it looks like they got loads of snow. But it's suppose to be +2 on Wednesday, +6 Thursday and +8 in Barrie on Friday so the snow should melt fast.

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

We have a good foot and a half, but it supposed to rain on wed, thursday and friday......hopefully this gets rid of most of it I can't friggin wait yo get out there.........staring at my bike all this time is just killing me. Hey, speedfreak, any word on those pants?

Posted by: Homewrecker---------------------

As much as we'd like to ride I think we're kidding ourselves when it comes to the weather.

There will probably still be a sh*tload of snow on the ground and the places that aren't covered in the stuff will be muddy as hell.

Posted by: killerdwarf717---------------------

Find a place to ride around Hamilton, and south, no snow all winter there!

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

Yee of little faith.................................................................we will be riding

Posted by: i_955---------------------

Well, the weather network has finally given it's most acurate forcast EVER!!!

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e...d/WeatherNA.jpg

The weekend looks good, or bad, or what ever you want.

This way they can't be fingered for guessing.

Latest Update
January 16....update for 2006....

So far January has proven to be unseasonably mild with melting snow and lots of sunshine! Anxious riders have been calling and emailing with a glimmer of hope that the track may open up for practice riding? Unfortunately that would be jumping the gun, as ground conditions are still far from ideal. With the frost now coming out of the ground it is leaving us with lots of mud and a track that is literally under water. Our hopes and intentions are to open the track for sometime in March....so for now enjoy the snowy colder weather that is yet to rebound & lets hope for an early spring....stay tuned for further updates....

Humm, seems to be sometime in March right now.

I sent an email, lets see.

Posted by: Homewrecker---------------------

I just checked out their website. Looks like a nice place to ride but it's a bit too far to drive for me - about 2.5 hours.

Posted by: killerdwarf717---------------------

I still hate that track

Posted by: i_955---------------------

I can relate, I'm not a good sand rider but sand is the best option in the late winter/early spring, heavy rains blablabla.

Posted by: killerdwarf717---------------------

I don't care. I still hate that track! It bit me

Posted by: i_955---------------------

Gopher Dunes replies with,

" track that is literally under water", so it is not open yet.

Posted by: John Cena---------------------

Here's an email Barb from Gophers sent me. I always get updates

Track Conditions....as at March 12, 2006....

This warm weather has arrived just to tease us, as the long range forecast doesn't look near as bright.

The guys spent a full day yesterday pumping water off the low lying areas of the track --- with anticipation
of warmer days and above zero nights to get the remainder of the frost out of the ground. This would
allow us to open for practice within a few days?

But...Mother Nature will predict what is still in store?
Should the nights go below -10C as is forecast, we have no possible opening date in sight? Once the
frost is out of the ground and the water and mud seeps down, things will look more promising; but until
then we can only hope for warmer weather. Our desire is that once we open the track for practice, that we
will be able to remain open.

So stay tuned and we will do our best to keep you informed...

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

Hey JAE612, where off of vetrans.........I just live off of Ferndale which vetrans turns into? If you are talking about the ssame place I think you are less then three minutes from my house. How old are you? I don't know anyone here who has a bike and to have someone so close that would be mint. I don't have my trailer as of yet but I am looking. We should hook up sometime and go for a ride real soon, I have been looking at some of the trails around the area and a few look like they might just be rideable, a little snow but not too much. Might be a little cold but I just wanna get out!

Posted by: JAE612---------------------

I am 22
i was out the other week in this area just on the street tho, i had to get out for a little taste. i just put a pro circuit t4 on the bike so i had to test it out

i live in the new subdivsion that they just build off veterans, its called thrushwood drive. if you go past your place towards molson park, turn left on brookwood and there i am, its the first set of lights after you pass essa road

well, anytime u feel like riding we should meet up, i saw some of your other posts and looks like you are strapped for a ride on the bike so i can come grab you in my truck

im starting to race this summer so any good riding i can get into me the sooner the better..

im going to go take my dog for a walk up there right now and check out the spot. im taking my new mx boots with me and try to work them in a bit
well let me know

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

Truck! SWEET and so close ........ man, I am friggin going crazy to get out, I too took my bike down the road th3e other day, but my neighbour dos'nt think too much of it and threatened to call the police on me. I am ready to go except the boots thing, i have to wait till the end of the month to get them.I will pay for gas wherever we go. I am 24, hav'nt owned a bike for a few years but i did ride alot last summer on my brother in laws bike while he was in afganastan. Anyway we need to hoook up soon and get some pre april 15th riding in. I think we should have a good group of guys for the 15th and its just up the road for us!

Posted by: JAE612---------------------

do you use msn? give me your contact thingy and i'll add you and we can talk more bout it

i whent for a walk today with my dog in there im not sure if i was in the right area, is it basically behind the movie theater? i walked down there then along the side of the highway in the forest,. its just snowmobile trails

im sure there is more too it than just that by the sounds of alot of people going out to this place.. im new to forum so im not sure what kind of group of people talk on here (motocrossers, off roaders...)

im down for whatever riding i just hope there are areas in there that i can work on my mx skills for race season

I got out for a ride today.
The soft topsoil is only an inch or so deep, then ice.
Luckily I left my studded tires on, the boyz I road with swapped to non-studded tires and paid with no traction and several offs and a gazillion almosts. Its very dangerous without studs,
I had a great great day, I have perma grin and I'm sleepy now, like I just did 3 rounds of hot sex.

Seriously, the ground is still frozen under the mud. If these condition continue riding season will start soon but it's still slippery out there right now.

Posted by: killerdwarf717---------------------

The ruts were friggen dangerous!!!! The slippery mud would drag ya into the frozen ruts, and then try to steal your bike right out from under you! The un-rutted trails were pretty good though! I rather enjoyed roosting that prick we encoutered on the trail! Seems he had a problem with us, even though we slowed to walking speed as we passed

Posted by: i_955---------------------

You replacing your slick with studs and coming out again tomorrow or are you coming as is?

Posted by: Grimm250---------------------

I will be in for the ride on April 15. I am going to leave at 8 in the morning.

I just need to know where the best parking area might be, so that my car doesn't get towed away.
Thanks

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

Sweet, I am glad to hear that we are going to have lots of people show up on the 15th. I think the best spotto park will be at the end of salem road. I think that their should be lots of room to park down there. If it fills up people can also park on the end of the fifth line, there is a church on the east side of vetrans drive and down at the end of the street there is a parking area, this leads to a second entrance to the trails.
Hope this helps you and anyone else who is unsure out.

Bryan

Posted by: JAE612---------------------

why dont we make a meeting place at the canadian tire on molson park drive then when everyone is there at a set time we can all cruise to the spot.

this way people can get a chance to talk to eacher and get to know who is who and shoot the poop you know?!

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

OK, so here's the deal.........we will all meet at the canadian tire parking lot on the morning of the 15th. I think that since some of you guys are coming from out of town we should meet around 11:00am, hopefully this will accomidate everyone. Any problems post them here.
Bryan

Posted by: Bryan F---------------------

Please Refer To New Thread Posted: Trying To Get An Idea..........

Posted by: Grimm250---------------------

The "Ride" was great today! There was a constant amount of new riders appearing throughout the day. The trails were perfect and the weather couldn't have been better. I guess know one from dirtrider.net showed up. Well, all I know is that it was fun and I met some new people.
