'06 WR250f Air Pump

Is there any reason to remove the air pump on the California models for either performance or ease of maintenance? It looks so bulky and rediculous I would just love to take it off. Less weight too. Has anyone done this? Any pros or cons? Thanks.

Maintenance would be the first reason I would do it. It seems to get in the way real nicely when trying to rotate the carb. I have read mixed reviews on performance gains when removed. Although Yamaha does sell a AIS kit for closed course use only, so it makes a person think.
I have rode a few 06 WRFs with them removed, but they were fitted with YZF cams, aftermarket exhaust and the free mods. And the owners had done all the work at the same time, so they couldn't comment on performence gains or losses. And frankly, there was no way I could tell.
Mine is still installed. I'm just waiting to see how the bike performs when I do a few more mods before I remove it. Although, when I mess with the carb I wish it was off there. But 3 screws isn't that big of a deal.

Remove it, lose .75 lbs. I makes carb access easier. Did seem to notice a big diffenece. The billet AIS removal kit is available from the Thumper Talk store. Removal help is available in the wr/yzf forums.
