Rich - Oh great swammy of fuel requirements

I have an idea for a direct injection system for an engine, but it is based on the premis that an engine requires a fixed amount of fuel based on each cylinder stroke. I would have the ability to increase the volume or decrease the volume as the RPM's increased, but it would basically be a mechanical sytem as apposed to electronic. Is my premis correct, or have I been drinking too much ( being cooped up in the winter makes me a little silly ).

You're a little late.

Stuart Hiborn invented the "constant flow" fuel injection system around 1946. It served lots of racers incredibly well for many years, but EFI has pretty much relegated it to the pages of automotive history these days.

Here's some great info on Hilborn. It's an interesting read about a pretty amazing guy.
