air screw on 05 YZ250f

was wondering if there was a special tool to adjust the air screw on this bike since the screw is on the bottom of the carb. I am making adjustments now by loosening the boot and turning it to the side which is a pain in the neck, not to mention I cannot make adjustments while the bike is running. I guess I could try to find a really small screwdriver.

Also while I'm at it, the bike seems to bog when I twist the throttle fast...I'm guessing this means too rich???

Drop $20 on a Zip-Ty extended fuel screw. It makes life much easier. It replaces the stock screw with a knurled knob that is marked with numbers so you can keep track of your adjustments. Takes minutes to install. Can be adjusted on the fly, engine running.

A bog or a hesitation?
Does it pop during decel?

If I twist it fast when in neutral, it will bog and even stall. It will hesitate slightly when riding if I get on it coming out of a corner. The only adjustment I have made is turning the air screw in 1/2 turn last fall when it was cold out. I think I'll try turning back out.

It does pop a little when deceling

Those are fuel screws on these bike. In = leaner (opposite of a 2smoke). And slight popping is optimal, as long as you're not having any other stumbling or hesitation issues when riding it. If it's still cold, come back out that 1/2 turn, and maybe even another 1/2 after test riding it. Also, I never found the performance on the stand to be a good indicator of how it performs under load while riding. Almost any 4-stroke tends to stumble if the throttle is whacked open on the stand, from my experience, but may still perform just fine on the track.

thanks big lou. Now I don't remember if I went in 1/2 or out 1/2...I thought I followed the manual in order to richen it. I'll go back to stock and work from there. Good point about the load vs. no load. Honestly I don't open the throttle that fast when riding anyway but I feel like I'm using my clutch as much or more than my 2 stroke.

If you order a adjustable fuel screw, make sure you don't loose the spring, washer and o-ring when you take the stock fuel screw out. Lay a rag over the cases before removal and take your time. Yes, I speak from experience!

When you get the fuel screw get the one that has a T handle. not the round knob....The knob is hard to get your fingers around......but both are easier than the stock.
