I am looking at buying a 1997 cr125. The price is $450, but the bike needs some work.

Any suggestions/opinions on this bike?

It depends upon what "some work' entails exactly, and the overall condition of the bike. If most of the major components are intact, and in decent shape, its worth more than that torn to pieces and sold as parts. Depending upon what it needs, it is probably worth the time, money and effort ot fix up, given the relatively low starting price. To say for sure, would require a more detailed inspection, to determine what exactly it needs to bring it back into good condition.
