KTM fork problem

K, I just got my fork seals done and filled back up with oil. The work was done by a good local bike mechanic here. But I don't think he knew that much about KTM suspension. I got my forks back and slapped them on the bike. Went for a ride the next day at the track. When I was going through the whoops I noticed that it felt like the forks were not doing anything. I pulled off the track and noticed the dust marks on the shiny part of my forks. It only went about a 1/4 of the way down my forks. When I push down on them they are really stiff no budge. I opened the fork bleeders and that didn't help. Need some advise. Thanx

You better take them back. Sounds like he has not set the oil height.

My rear shock is a little loose, I think I need to get it racharched and put some new oil in it. If I keep riding it just for like another week or so until I get my forks fixed do you think that having my forks so stiff and my shock so soft could damage my bike at all? I'm hitting jumps and stuff.

this could be a couple of things. Oil height was not set correctly, i.e. full to the top when collapsed, forgot to set height, replaced bushings with wrong ones, or I have seen forks that were not installed correctly do this, if you do not install the front wheel correctly it can bind the forks and mimic this. I wouldn't have believed it until I saw it for myself.
Pull the forks and push on them if they feel rock solid off the bike you know the problem is with the fork, if they feel right you know you have an instalation problem.

When I push on them they only go down about a 1/4 of the way and then they just stop. Even when I go off jumps. I hurt my wrist the other day just hitting a jump and landing. Landing on the rear shock isn't that bad, but if I land on the front at all it just kills my wrists.

The rear shock could be as simple as the heim joint (KTM's have a single shock/swingarm connection as opposed to the linkage on other bikes).

Put the bike up on a stand. Move the swingarm up and down, and look at the heim joint; if it has any play or "knocks" you need to replace it. About $50 CDN for parts and 20 mins of shop time to press in the bearing.

Sounds like you should spend the $ on a shock rebuild anyway...just don't try to service a WP shock yourself or let an inexperienced tuner work on it. They're different beasts.

how do the forks react off the bike?

I vote for too high on the fork oil level also. However just a thought. Check your sag on the rear. Are you way down in the stroke? If so, then your forks will not react properly without a balanced bike. The forks will push in corners, wash-out, and deflect off everything.
