Dallas SX ? (Spoiler)

I know a bunch of you guys went to the race. I have a question.

Can we get the stupid boat moved from next to the whoops section? The way it looked on TV, Carmichael was about 2 ft. from a really bad trip to the hospital.

I know that (who's the boat manufacturer? Mastercraft? Malibu?) the boat people are sponsors and that they want the visibility, but it's not worth wrecking someones career over.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Ski Natique (sp?) I think?
It was freakin close. Wanna make odds that you won't see any more vehicles inside the track?
Stoopid.

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

That wasnt the best spot for a advertisement Anybody know the condition of the photographers that got hit are??

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

I watched them after, they just went back to work, so it couldn't be too bad. Tell ya what.. the pass JS put on RC the lap before; TV didn't do it justice, unreal speed difference. Pretty sure that's what caused RC to doink the next lap.

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

RIght on.. Had me kinda worried, years back i saw a flagger take a wheel too the chest at a AX, wasnt good

Posted by: dirt bike dave---------------------

I've never seen a rider willing to attack while on the very edge of the track like Bubba does. It's a high risk/high reward strategy.

What a great way to head into the final two rounds! Each of the top three still has a shot. Bubba needs a little luck, but RC and Chad will be going head to head.

Chad is on the top of his game and riding great. I still think RC will win the title, but it is going to be close.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

The planets will re-align, Chad will get no more gifts.

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

Chad deserved his win, i was thinkin the same though, took RC a JS too crash for him too win..

I hope Chad somehow ties RC next week in points, then it come down too Vegas

Don't count Chad out of kissing the dirt, he has had a share of crashes himself this season in the heat races, now that he is within 2 points to the championship he is gonna have to ride over his head , and dont forget about the rain next race which is gonna be a big factor, i hope all 3 guys make it safe to the outdoors. Best Season Ever

Agreed..........Me too...but I think that RC is gonna win......Bubba is gonna feel the pressure and try to hard......... But anything can happen...Can't wait

Posted by: Chili---------------------

One of the photogs was an Oklahoma guy by the name of John Craft, the other one has not been identified on any of the forums I frequent. Both of their cameras were pretty much trashed, both lenses were ripped right off at the mounts. Craft stated today that he was pretty banged up but otherwise ok. The boat sponsor is Mastercaft, RC is sponsored by Air Nautique.

Posted by: HySpeed125---------------------

The 2 wins that Reed has had this year have gotta be bittersweet. He(Reed) has got to think,in the back of his head that only way he can win is if Stewart and Carmichael both crash.

Posted by: HiG4s---------------------

Just playing with the possibilities,,

if if goes as expected,, JBS 1 RC 2 and CR 3 both of the next races,,, RC wins, JBS and CR tie for 2nd.

If it goes JBS 1 -1, and RC 2-3, with CR 3-2,, RC wins by two points CR gets 2nd by two points.

If JBS goes 1-1 CR steps up and goes 2-2 with RC 3-3 CR wins it. RC and JBS tied for 2nd

IF (big if) someone else gets in the mix,, like Wey or Kdub and JBS goes 1-1, CR goes 3-3 RC goes 2-4 they all end up tied for 1st

It is all keyed on what RC does,, I say he goes into protect mode for real this time. He is looking for a 2nd the next two races.

Stewart has a protect mode option for the world rounds too, because he is leading by 7 points, so i think Reed is going after Ricky for a tie or the lead, this is Reed 's only chance but how about the rain and mud may be for the next meet ?

wouldnt that be interesting

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Pretty sure JS wins any ties, with the most wins on the season.

Posted by: Red Mamba---------------------

Who do you pick for the most valueable racer honors in both lites and supercross class, regardless of who wins the title ?

yes

Posted by: Micahdawg---------------------

I don't see how RC can go into protect mode for 2nd place and comfortably hold off Reed. I think we'll see Reed kicking it up just enough that RC won't be able to settle in. RC either charges hard, or he settles, but can he find a comfortable "in-between" where he's letting JBS go, but holding off Reed...all the while not eating it? Hmmmm.

As for Reed getting his gifts....yes, he is. He's not fast enough to win the drag races. But I see it like this. Car A has 400 HP, but can live all day long at the drag strip like this. Car B has 700 HP, can smoke car A easily, but blows up every once in a while. Which one is better?

All I know is if Reed ends up winning this thing (yes, I know it's a longshot), I think both JBS and RC need to seriously re-evaluate their strategies for next year.

Micah

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

If Reed wins the 06 SX title, the poles will shift, the earth will spin backwards on its axis, and pigs will fly.

He's good, but so are those other two guys

Posted by: nikki---------------------

Reed needs to send a limo for Big Lou and get him out to Seattle and/or Vegas. The two rounds Lou attended, were Yamaha's two wins. And yes, Lou is a Yamaha dude.

Posted by: nikki---------------------

And..... how awesome are the last two races gonna be!?!

They need to allegedly feign injury, hope for crashes by other guys, and let their opponents be distracted by fuel controversies? Sounds like a plan!

Posted by: justice29---------------------

This is the most exciting season in some time. When is the last time the title came down to Vegas?

The pass Bubba put on Ricky was something else. It looked like Ricky bobbled a little bit and Bubba had a perfect line and flew through there.

I wish he would have stayed in protect mode, he would have won Dallas !

Speedy Reedy can only win if JS and RC crash out. Must really mess with his head.

Posted by: Micahdawg---------------------

Likewise, JBS and RC can only win if they don't crash. Considering they both seem to be regularly eating it these days, makes you wonder who's head is more messed up.

Micah

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Yup.. the two fast guys go for it, every time out.. Reed knows he can't run the pace so just goes out and hopes. Can't say it's a bad tactic. It'll get him a third this season.

Posted by: JMD---------------------

If RC has been in "smart" mode, he seriously fouled up in Dallas. "Smart" mode only works if you stick to it: ride fast, but not so fast you risk crashing; protect your points lead, take second if you have to, wait for the fast guy-risk taker to crash. But you can't ride in smart mode most of the time and let it all hang out needlessly once in a while. Then you risk crashing, and you don't have all the wins you might have had earlier. If RC had played it smart in Dallas, he'd have tucked in behind James and waited. He'd have reaped the benefits of Stewart's crash, and it's unlikely Reed could have caught him. He'd be 11 points ahead of where he is now, Reed would be three down, and Bubba would be two lower. So RC would lead Reed by 16 and Bubba by 22. Instead, RC tried to give the fans what they wanted. I hope he can live with that at the end of the season.

Posted by: dirt bike dave---------------------

The track plays a big role in how 'smart' a rider looks. Dallas was pretty rough and even the best in the world struggled a bit.

There is no 'safe' mode through nasty whoops when you need to maintain laps that are 3+ seconds faster than guys like the Windham, Tedesco, Wey and Byrne.

IMO, all 3 of the top guys have really answered their critics this year.

RC has 6 wins out of 14 races. Better than I thought he would get. He leads the title chase despite a mechanical DNF.

Reed has shown the heart of a champion and is now riding his best of the year. Anyone who thinks RC and Bubba have the speed to walk away from him at will has not been paying attention lately. So he struggled with bike setup early, then got injured. Yet he is breathing down RC's neck and ahead of JBS in points. Impressive if you ask me.

If JBS could have started his bike in St. Louis, he would be in control of this thing.

GREAT season!

I think RC will barely win the title and JBS will win the most races.

Oh....he was tuckin' alright. Tuckin' as fast as he could. Right after being passed like his rear wheel came off, lol.

Posted by: JMD---------------------

No doubt, James went by RC like a shot. Maybe we should just give him the title now.

Posted by: 2-Strokes 4-ever---------------------

"Fast" wins heats, practices, and the "want" of fans. "Smart and fast" wins in the long run.
My best riding buddy and I are crusty old tight woods guys, sure........I can pass him in a given section and even stay in front of him for a little while.......but he's more consistent (smarter) and most of the time I end up buying the beer. I see RC as the "free beer" guy.........although after Dallas, he shoulda bought.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

...and if he's not careful, he'll be buying the beer for Chad.

Want a dream season? Seattle is a mud bath, Reed, RC have "bad" finishes, JS wins... 2-3 points seperate the top 3.

Vegas is broadcast live. Winner takes all.

Even the old-schoolers would have to admit it's the best season ever.

Posted by: TheGrinch---------------------

It doesn't get much closer than this, that's for sure.

Can't take credit for that, it was sent to me via email.

Posted by: wardy---------------------

A month ago it mattered.

today ?? who cares we are all racing around here and who when and oh there was a "stupid cross last" night, conversations last weekend turned to local and regional events, and SX just went from 1-2 on the scale to some where around 18th. :P

funny, how 60 degree's and nice weather, daylight til 830 pm and "stuff" to do (getting ready to race) blurs out the fact that the SX races are close and could be a "photo finish"......

fact is, one of those three will win, and it won't be my favorite so..................

back to the real world of getting beat by the new faster 45+ guys..

I guess the "coolest" thing is this local 6 year old who is a friend of mine's kid, this kid looks like if he continues to ride as well as we have seen maybe able to do very well at LL, hope to see top ten.......now that is something to watch!

Posted by: YamaB---------------------

I had a great time at the race... JBS was stupid fast, especially in the whoops... I was watching the practice, and he easily ran down RC and passed him going over the triple (turned around, looked back at RC, and pointed mid air)... I couldn't believe it when he crashed, and was getting flash backs of St. Louis when his bike wouldn't start... I really don't care who wins the championship, but I want to see the points be VERY close heading into Vegas...

RC and JS both have 6 wins apiece. CR has the other 2 wins making it 14 races so far.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

... that was based on the post saying JS wins out (Seattle and Vegas).

Considering all races that the three have competed in, JS has 8 wins ... not that it matters with the AMA title.

Posted by: DaRooster---------------------

Just an observation but how bout giving Nick Wey kudos after his 3rd podium of the season. The guy is really fast and beating some of the big time factory boys. This guy deserves a factory ride for sure. I hope he can catch Tedesco in points, that would be sweet. And really other than Millsaps moving up to the big dogs next year, who's gonna carry Honda in the "big" class next year. Go Team TwoSeven.

Chad

Remember the Unadilla race when Wey caught a bump wrong early in the race and did that incredible forward flip? That was something else!!! He just kind of popped into the air out of the crowd of bikes, folded his arms up, and hung upside for what seemed an eternity before landing on the downside of a berm. Jumped up, grabbed his bike, and off he went! My wife's comment was "He must have done gymnastics at some time!".

if you can center the action in that shot ill BUY a poster!!

SWEET!! pic of our Michigan native!!

LOL.. photogs will tell you about the "1/3's rule". Here's a guy that can shoot...

Posted by: ellandoh---------------------

those do have some nice clarity, the last one on the page is the only one i find really interesting. seems more impressive to my untrained eye when the action is moving perpendicular to the shooter than when shooting down a straightaway which could be on a tripod with random timing

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

One of the things that's important when shooting motor sports of any kind... is to show where the subject came from, or where they're going in some way; relates to "movement". There are a lot of ways to convey a "feel" and there's more to the scene than just the brightest shiny parts Example, I like these images in part due to the names on the ring at Texas Stadium ... odd seeing two contrasting sports "showing-up" in one image.

Looks like you found the perfect spot for photos during practice! Excellent shots!

One thing I look for in a good clear photo is being able to see the knobs.... I love it!

BigLou and I collaborated on lighting

I put the camera down and actually watched most of the night program. Think I have a decent one of Short in his heat....

Okie what did you shoot with. Camera, lens, etc. They came out nice. Did not get a chance to do anything with my Houston shots. The 300 turned out to be almost too much lens from where we were sitting.

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Most were with the 24-70 Sigma EX-DG. (Canon 20d), the 70-200 was too long.

Posted by: kawicam125---------------------

hey Okie, you got any shots of JBS sideways only not from the down-view so i can see the side of the bike? thanx

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Not sure I understand.

Posted by: kawicam125---------------------

i mean like a picture of JBS and his bike only sideways. you know, so i can see the whole bike, not just part of it. if you cant find an exact replica of what im describing, anything close will be ok.
