Suzuki 77 PE250 shocks

I want to replace my stock shocks with newer upgraded models. Can I install a longer set that will lengthen travel and stiffen up the rear a little more? What do some of you guys recommend for replacements? Any help will be appreciated. Also anyone out there with spare parts for this model....drop me a line as well.
