Greasing the KIPS

I tore apart the top end on my 91 and saw that I needed to replace the valves. So I ordered both of them and replaced them. As I took everything apart I cleaned each piece painstakingly well and dry fit it all back together before I did it for real. When I dry fit it, I could move the entire system by using the main rod, the main valve and it was easy to move. So now I put the grease like is instructs me to do but when I put it all back together there is obvious resistance. Not metal to metal but just from the grease.. Is that right?

Where did you apply grease? On my bike the manual only lists 2 places: the kips gears (which should have no effect on ease of movement), and the small o-ring on the right-side kips rod. Everything else is supposed to be lubricated with 2-cycle oil. That greased o-ring can feel quite sticky inside the bore. I used a gun cleaning rod with fabric patches to clean out the bore in which that rod moves, and now everything operates with very little resistance.

You with about 10,000 other people have said this. But where does it say to lube this with 2 stroke oil? This is from the service manual:

“-Apply a Molybdenum disulfide grease to the following:
Exhaust valve upper and lower journals
Exhaust valve pinions
Valve guides(inside)
Valve operating journals
Valve operating valve jack
-Adjust the exhause valve position in accordance with the following procedure:
After installing the rod retaining screw in the cylinder with the valve operating rod, pull the rod to the right side as far as it will go.......”

My manual is for a '97 KDX200, so it is obviously different from yours. My manual has an exploded diagram of all kips components, and on that diagram it has arrows pointing to things which need oil, and another arrow pointing to things which need grease.
