WA State & OR Road Trip - Jr. + Old Man

June 13-21 my son and I will be doing a road tip up the CA coast via the redwoods and into OR & WA; loop to the east by Seattle and then down towards Mt Rainer/St Helens, then down the Columbia Gorge and to Crater Lake; Lassen and back home maybe via the Mother Lode.
He wants to take a ferry across Puget Sound, and is undecided about the going around the Olympia penninsula, and is intrigued by floating highways. Any suggestions for there and elsewhere? We'd be alternating between tenting it and a hotel for showering purposes.
Our passing thru Seattle may afford a lookin' at MACE's WR now that I am bikeless (dude: pls email or PM me!)

If you go around the Olympics stop at a place called Ruby Beach and take a short hike with your camera. If you are near Seattle on a Friday night go to Pacific Raceways in Kent. My son and I will be racing in the motocross race until 11
m. Over 60 riders in the lite class alone.
