How can I tell if forks are binding because of trip clamp mis allignment?
Put a new Pro Taper top clamp on and now forks seem very harsh, alignment looks good by eyeball but cant figure out any good reference points to measure from to ensure both clamp holes center match up. Make any sense?

Did you use a torque wrench to tighten the clamps? It only takes about 14lbs ie; not very much. Gotta be careful not to crush the upper tubes.
Did you have the forks completely off the bike? Or the wheel off?
Try this:
1) Losen the axel pinch bolts and axel.
2) take the bike off the stand, compress the forks several times (front brake on)
3) back on the stand, tighten the axel and pinch bolts to spec.
