How do you find a gas station with 93 octane?

Seems that all the gas stations near me only have 91octane. I checked the various brand sites (chevron, shell, 76) and they don't have any way to search for the specific station. Any ideas?

Most of the time I just look for the big green sign that has the letters BP on it. If I remember correctly, and it may be different in some areas, Amoco Ultimate is 93.

all sunoco's i've seen have 94

Thanks for the advice... unfortunately BP and Sunoco aren't very much in So Cal...

What altitude are you at when you purchase fuel?

Posted by: psalm3124---------------------

912 feet above sea level. . . you've got me very curious...

As you go up in altitude an engine's octane requirement drops and US fuel is blended to a lower octane at higher altitudes to reflect this. If you regularly ride at altitude the engine won't mind the 91 octane fuel.

There are different zones throughout the US and fuel is changed based on altitude and time of year within those zones.

The other issue that comes with higher octane in a pump fuel is the use heavy hydrocarbons that don't like to vaporize. In Southern California it's likely that they limit these heavier hydrocarbons and the octane at the pump reflects that. I don't pay much attention to the current SoCal EPA regs, but I'm guessing that a little research could point out the specifics. SoCal is a tough area to find good pump fuel in.

Rich, thanks for the insight. I do ride mostly at a higher altitude and i'm happy with the way the bike performs (06 YZ250 stock), I was wondering if a higher octane would help. Thanks again.

In California, it has been years since I have seen anything higher than 91 octane.

I found Union 76 100 octane at a pump-station in Newport Beach, CA, although that was in 2002.

Not true, some of the stations "ultra" is 93. It depends where you live.

All the shells and clarks and bps around here carry 93. Its kind of weird how they don't in so cal.

Psalm.

Search for a CFN station near you. They are card lock stations that carry diesel. Many of them also carry Sonoco 110 octane race gas.

Where in California are you located? I have a list of all of their stations.

I'm in Diamond Bar -- mostly head up to GH & CE.

Now I got another related question. The engine, exhaust, everything is bone stock. I recall the manual saying to use 93 octane, is 110 too much?

Thanks!

Found the CFN station locator. Thanks...

What does Card lock mean? I looked at the website and couldn't find out. Do I need a membership or can I just show up with my gas tank?

They are 24 hour stations that are for the most part un-attended. You need a card and a code to operate the pumps. Not all of them carry race fuel. The one's that do will have an office where you can go in and pay for your race fuel and they will loan you the card to operate the pumps. You can see by the locator list, they are everywhere.

The one in Chino has race fuel and also the one in Corona. There are also a couple of them in Pomona between the 60 and 10 freeways on your way to GH. Check first to see if they carry race fuel.

I don't use it in my bike, I use it in a 400HP 2.5 Liter turbo'd Subaru engine running on 12 lbs boost. Works great for that. I can't imagine it would hurt your bike but, Rich would be the man to ask about that.
