Hey guys, so my gf also wants to try dirtbiking as well and I know was wondering what type of bike would be good for her?
1) your physical size (both height and weight are important)
5'2-5'3, 110lbs

2) How physical / aggressive are you ?
not very aggressive
3) what do you plan to ride- MX/SX tracks, woods, fields with friends or ?????
fields with friends
4) Do you have any riding experience?
no
5) Do you think you will race ?
no
6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work?
I will be doing it for her
7) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)?
4 stroke
8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry?
A few with a variety, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha
9) How much do you plan to spend on a bike?
$2000

Thanks for any help guys!

Id say a XR100 or TTR125 for her size. You could get a KLX110 also, its a little smaller. Check the websites and seat heights. And if you can go down to some dealers have her sit on them. But Id say for a new rider and that size those choices are good. Also the resale on the Honda and Yamaha are pretty good so you cant go wrong.

TTR 125 L or...
CRF 150 F

Oh yea, the XR100 is ancient history. Sorry, Im soooo 1998.

My daughter (12, 5'1", 90 lbs) rides a TTR-125LE. Great bike for her. Not that heavy (she can pick it up), good low end power, excellent handling. Recommended.

ttr125 is a good bike, or the crf150f. i personally would recommend the ttr because it is a lot less heavy.

I'd have to agree with the TTR125 or CRF150!

I'm the same size as your GF and started riding on a XR100. It made it very easy to learn on and I moved up to a 125 within a few months of getting it.
I also say go for the TTR-125L or the CRF150. Both great bikes and won't get away from her.
If you go for the TTR go for either the "L" or the "LE" model. The L has front disc brakes and bigger wheels (19 and 16). The reg. TTR has drum brakes and 17 and 14" wheels. The LE has the disc brakes, bigger wheels and electric start.

Great! Thanks guys looks like I'll be looking into the TTR-125LE. What can we expect to pay for an 04 model?

I would lean towards the Yamaha, my daughter had one, it's a very good bike.

Perhaps 1500-1700.

Cr500 is a must

the LE model seems the be significantly more expensive than the L model. Are 4 strokes a lot harder to kickstart? I'm trying to decide between them and also having a harder time finding a used LE model.

No those bikes aren't that hard to start.

I bought my GF a CRF150 and she loves it. I first bought her a 2002 yz85 and it was too fast for her. She is 5-3 and 115lbs. She rode the 125's and 100 four stroke and they seemed to lack in power for her. The 230 would be perfect but is too tall for her. Just my .02

No, they aren't particularly hard to start, unless you've just stalled it for the fifth time in ten minutes and are hot and tired already.

How necessary it is will depend on your assessment of your lady's penchant to say "screw this, I'll stay home."

Posted by: johng723---------------------

haha that's very true. She really wants one and thinks it'll be fun but her patience level has grown thin since we've gotten a dog! I'm still looking around but to save a few hundred I dont think she'll mind the kickstart

Posted by: Xtremesports445---------------------

i'd have to agree that the electric button isn't necessary. I had the LE model and my battery was dead for a while and the kick start worked fine, and it's really easy to kick

Trust me, she will love the E-Start, isn't she worth the extra cash?
