Club moto is done

Bummer, club moto is closing its doors. I loved riding there.

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

I know, i didnt ride ther much, but i guess water is important.. You ever ride SandHill?? Looks like San Jose will be the place too go..

Heres the message from ClubMotos site:

A message from John Connelly 7/19/06:

Just got off the phone with Johnny Chavez. Here's the official word.

The water resource board is buying 2 acres of land from the land owner to facilitate a water canal that is planned to go through the area. The 2 acres is basically where 3/4 of the track is now. They are also moving up the timeframe to reapply for a permit to keep the track open, which means that new environmental studies etc. would need to be done ASAP to keep anything open, at the expense of $10-20K and a lot of work.

So, it's not worth it for MMP to try and keep the track open. Johnny will now move his equipment over to SJMX and focus on making it the best track they can. SJMX is going to be expanded soon to use more of the land, and Johnny is looking for clean sand to bring in (it must be "tested" sand, free of toxins). If anyone knows of a source for clean sand please contact Johnny.

Here's wishing Johnny luck at making SJMX a killer place to ride. I'll miss CM. I've ridden there since before it opened in '94. Sigh.

I havent been to sandhill this year yet. But Ive heard that it is closed for a month or so for some reason. San Jose is like 3 hours from me, so I just cant bring myself to go down there. I would love to see another track spring up somewhere, we need some more norcal tracks.

Hanford and tulare seem more like central cal to me. Its a 2.5 to 3 hour drive for me also. Ok for a all day trip or more, but I want some places that I can shoot to for a few hours. I have Argyll, but usually its not worth 20 bucks.

Sandhill is a pretty fun track, wide, not on lined and the jumps are forgiving.. It is closed for the month at the moment.. Check out Sandhillracing.com for more info, here is there phone#925.240.6247 ex.2.. I want too go hit up Tulare, i have soem friends that live down that way.. WHereabouts are you located?? Im in the Bay Area, Union City..

We do need some more tracks up here.. I may go ride E Street up in Marysville next sunday, im not sure though..

Im in Vacaville. I need to get up to E-street. I keep hesitating because I let my IMSA membership lapse. I guess its just a membership cost now. But when I want to go riding I havent been able to get myself to drop 55 bucks for a single day at the track.

Club Moto is re-opening, should be open by the 1st of September.. Kirk (the original owner) is taking it back over, they announced it the other night over and San Jose MX

Posted by: dmdee99---------------------

How much does it cost to go to club moto?

Also what days are they open and what times?

I am a biginners and am looking for a track that is not too complicated. How is it for beginners?

Also is Argyll not really worth a trip? I am planning on going there on Wednesday morning. I live up in Lodi/Galt area in Sacramento County.

Posted by: rickyd---------------------

Try out Sandhill, it is begineer friendly.. Check out this site for pics http://www.mikeshots.smugmug.com/

Im not sure how much Club Moto will be, but Sandhill is $20 to ride.. Check out sandhillracing.com for more info.. Hopefully we'll see you out there..

Sand Hill certainly will tire you out quick though with all those hills. It is an excellent track for conditioning with all of the elevation changes. But like Rickyd said it is fairly beginner friendly, in that the obstacles and jumps are all relatively small and easy.

dmdee99 Argyll is worth the trip if they groom it, but it is really hit or miss. Wednesdays are usually pretty good though as long as their junk equipment is up and running. I will be heading to Argyll tomorrow morning. Right around 10 a.m. it is usually the best because they will have just finished grooming and watering. When groomed right it is a great track and has some challenging obstacle, 3 pretty large tables including one 110 footer.

Dmdee,

The following was posted by the owner of Club Moto.. It is not open yet, but will be soon, check out ClubMoto.com

heres what Kirk had to say,

To start with , we will only be open 2 days a week so every time you come out , the track will be PERFECT . thursday afternoon form 4 to 10 ( it may be from 2 till 8 untill we get another generator hooked up ) and sunday from 9 to 5 . the reason we will only be open 2 days to start with , is so we can take the time nessisary to get the track groomed and watered like race conditions every open day . since shawn reed got injured 5 years ago , the track has suffered . it takes a lot of know how to prep club right because of the dirt . it hasnt been real good for a long time . people who have only riden there recently will be pleasantly suprised at how good it can be . we may go to 3 open days in spring if demand warrants it .
the price will be $25 per rider , including a spectator pass , good for someone in your car , or you can assign it to someone and leave it at the front gate if you want to have a friend meet you there . and $35 for families , all members included .

Thanks for all the info guys. I really appreciate it.

I went to Argyll today and they had the track groomed and watered down.

It was a fairly good track to ride. It was not too difficult for a beginner like me. I got there at around 9 am when they opened and stayed till about 12:30.

JST122 were you out there to day with your kawi? I think I saw you there but I didn't even know it. I was the guy on the RM250 you lapped twice. Your wicked fast.

Posted by: JST122---------------------

dmdee99, Yeah I was there, #122 on the KX450. Thanks for the compliment I have been working hard at getting better and have finally started running with the intermediates so I am seeing progress anyway. On days when that track is groomed right it is pretty fun. But somedays they are lazy or their equipment isnt running and it can be horrible. I am going to ride there again tomorrow (wednesday 30th) so I am hoping it is in good shape. When are you headed out again?

Posted by: dmdee99---------------------

Sorry for the late response. I have been traveling due to work. I plan on going out there on 9/20 or so to get some conditioning going. Me and my neighbor are planning on doing a hare scramble at Holister on the 30. So I need to make sure I am in somewhat shape. Maybe we could meet out there and you could give me some tips on how to ride the track. I remeber you were clearing those small doubles that they have at Argyl and I was trying like crazy to clear them but was landing right on the incline of the second. Talk about pain in the ass.

Posted by: Supermofo---------------------

I spoke with one of the guys who works at Argyll. He said they groom it everyday now. I went there for the first time on Sunday (Nov 12) and it was in good shape.

Posted by: JST122---------------------

Yeah Argyll is much better now that they have brought in all of the extra dirt. They have been able to raise the level of the track a bit so hopefully that will help with the drainage now during the rainy winter season. They have also put in several new jumps. They still have a lot more dirt to get out on the track to build more onstacles and get rid of the low spots to further help the rain water run-off. Over the last year they have done alot better on keeping the track conditions up, hopefully they will keep it up.
