Another oops for KTM?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just heard Alessi is planning to ride in the big bore class next year. Is that a good idea?

Posted by: kmccune---------------------

I'm not sure but he will defiantly have a power to weight advantage. I think that KTM would be better served by doing something about his suspension. Its obvious that his is not up to pare with RV and crew. He did pretty good at Milville on the 450 but that was a Honda and so IMHO better suspension. Could be that I'm full of it, but if so I believe my own....

At his pro debut at Millville, Alessi was on a Honda 450. He ran top 10 before retiring with a mechanical.

At the next national, (his 2nd race as a pro), he went 5-4 for 3rd overall. Not many 16 year olds have podiumed a national on a 450 in their 2nd pro race.

I think he can handle the big bikes.

Yeah what dirt bike dave said!

The "oops" was signing that putz in the first place.

LMAO!

However, he's got a lot of experience on the 450 - don't underestimate his ability with the big bike as far as power is concerned. I saw him on the 450 Honda as an amateur and he handled it quite well.

I agree, I think it's a mistake for KTM.

I don't think it is a power issue, I think it's a maturity issue. He has yet to show the maturity it takes to win in the lower class, let alone the big class.

So far this season he's blamed everyone but himself for RV spanking him. That whole BS with him saying RV has an advantage because none of the KTM guys were blocking for him was so lame.....

He might manage to be a top 10 guy but anything beyond that and I'd be surprised.

ditto what the last guy said.

I'm just glad the little putz isn't representing the USA at the MXdN.

Character counts, Mikey, and you ain't got any. Thank Dad for that.

BOOYA GRANDPA! Well said. He's got the skills but his mentality is equivelent to a 5 year old. Fix that and switch teams and we may have something here.

OK I was trying to be nice, the kid will wad himself the first time that he gets his undys in a bundle by tipping over at the start or some other silly mistake. He need to calm down and think. As for Millville, he lived down the road for a month or two (not sure how long) and John let him ride the track during that time in exchange for helping with the track. He also had "hype" but not a lot of real pressure, so he didn't loose his head. Don't get me wrong I think the kid is fast but needs a little seasoning.

Posted by: mdkuder---------------------

He sure can ride but needs to be weaned!

Posted by: Vic---------------------

I'll go out on a limb and say that he had his chance and I don't think he can win a championship, now.

He's mentally weak, and the comp is going to get even tougher.

A factory KTM is about as good as a stock Honda. Get Mikey on a bike that is competitive and he beats RV. I don't like Mike's attitude or him, but I believe if you put him on a bike as good as RV's pro-circuit Kawi, than he has got a shot.

Posted by: weimedog---------------------

maybe. But I don't think the other "factories" like the Alessi package for image and public relations reasons. And when you have Stewart, RV, Ivan T, Davi Milsaps, and a bunch of other guys who are fast; I think Alessi is fortunate to have that KTM ride.

I dunno about that one. That KTM he rode this year was certainly fast enough to snap almost every holeshot. It also proved to be pretty reliable.

RV's bike is the one that blew up twice in one season resulting in two DNFs. Alessi's only DNF came not because of a lesser bike but because of a lesser mind.

I don't see the logic in that statement. I'd bet anything that RV would have won on on that KTM.

I agree, stock KTMs have the power and every pro rider has there own custom people doing the suspension. At the worst a factory KTM would be no worse than a top priviateer mount, plenty good enough to win if the rider has the talent.

Watching a couple of races, it seems Alessi is smooth and looks good when he is out front, but as soon has he is behind he gets tight and looks on the edge, even when he is going slower.

If everything is not going perfectly, he loses it. Classic sign of mental weakness, and why I think he can't win a championship.

Posted by: YamaB---------------------

It kinda makes sense... KTM is wanting a presense in the big bike class, and right now, Alessi is their top rider... I personally think he should wait though as his speed on the smaller bikes has been sub-par the last several rounds...

Posted by: mtk---------------------

I just can't see tying my corporate image to that guy, no matter how fast he is.
