How to Lower YZ426 for DTX

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Jeremy,

Now that I have my new '06 YZ450, I never ride the '01 YZ426 for MX. What would it take to convert the old girl into a dirt tracker so that I can occassionally join my buddies on the oval tracks?

My suspension already has RT gold valves, front and rear--which I installed. I also have access to a machine shop and am confident that I can make the "top-out" spacers required to lower the front/rear suspension.

Questions:
1. Is 7" the right amount of travel to shoot for?
2. How do I choose new spring rates...I know that these should become stiffer for better chassis control on the relatively smooth oval tracks. I'm 200 lbs.
3. Should I change the compression and rebound valving? Or just increase the rebound to match the energy of the stiffer springs?

Thanks in advance,

Steve
