Look out WMA ... she's coming!

She was at Millville and I was really looking forward to see her on Am day. Unfortunately she only came to spectate.

Posted by: Vic---------------------

She seems to have the knack.

Posted by: Solid State---------------------

Gutsy!

Posted by: XRpredator---------------------

and the noise doesn't bother her.

Posted by: pyrofreak---------------------

I was just going to comment on that. She's deaf. So any time that anybody thinks that they suck or that they can't do something, think of this girl, and how hard you bet she worked. And guess what, looks like hard work pays off.

Ashley is awesome! I would love to be able to meet her someday. She can really rip! At LLs she went DNF, 7, 4 for a 14th O/A and that was on a supermini in the women's sr. class against 250fs and 125s.

i read on transworld she's only like 5 feet tall so the adjustment to the 125 or 250f is gonna be tough, she could ride a 50 and still beat me

Posted by: mg89---------------------

Dang it! I don't have quicktime

Posted by: MXobssesed4---------------------

i dont think transworld uses quick time? does it? if not you can get it and view in on twm

Im impressed with the fact that she is able to successfully switch over from her 85 two stroke to the 150 fourstroke with such ease being that she is deaf. I would think it would be difficult with just feel alone to determine the shift points right away when these bikes have such different power curves and delivery.

Wow that girl can ride! I read the article about her in the TWmx magazine. She seems like a very nice person.

Posted by: motometal---------------------

she may be able to feel the vibrations of the motor, or sense some of the lower frequencies.

I have deaf parents, and through the years, I have learned that they can feel vibrations, and since they rely on those vibrations, its not that hard to pick them up.

They can also hear really loud noises, like if i rev my CR125R when it's pretty close to him, or any bike in fact, depending on what it is.. Mostly 85's, 125's, any 250's, and 450's.

And especially when we watch the track from the stands, when they ride by he can almost always hear/feel the bikes.

My dad can ride any dirt bike, just as good, or better than as anyone, he just feels the vibrations of the revving motor to tell him when to shift. It's pretty cool.

Not bike related but there was a deaf guy that used to come watch my band play. He loved us and said we were his favorite local band which I thought was kind of odd. His wife explained that he felt the music. I would see him from time to time riding his Harley around town and wonder how he knew when to shift but I guess it's no different than when I ride. I never listen, only feel when to shift, normaly when the bike quits pulling as strong.
btw, the deaf guy was a deisel mechanic.

I agree, I don't so much hear the bike as I do feel it... especially when on a track with other riders, I tend to block out the sound of my own bike and listen for them... That's the part of her riding that I don't get.. She has to be faster than anyone else.. She couldn't hear them to know when they were about to pass her.
