Yz250 or crf450??

Hi im looking at getting a crf450 (only cause yzf450 is only 4 spd) or a yz250!

id like a crf 450 more then the 250 but Dad thinks the crf450 would be too much power but i thought 450 4s and 250 2s r bout same power??

i just sold my 2001 yz125 cause i want a bigger bike. is going from a 125 to a 450 too much of a leap?

im 154lbs 6 ft and been riding for about 10-12 months

I just started riding in dunes n stuff therfor i need mroe power then 125! but i still trail ride and some mx!

also would a 450 4 be harder to kick start then a 250 2?

there's a large gap between a 250 two stroke and a 450 4 stroke. i've ridden both alot. If you've only been riding for about a year I would get a 250 2 stroke. A 450 is easier to ride in a sense because you can lug it around but at the same time it has TONS of torque and can get away from you if your twist happy like most of us are

ok thnx yeh ill probly get a 250 for now and maybe 6 or so months down the track get a 450

and could someone answer the other question if a 450 is hard to start then a 250 2 stroke?

They kick harder but its not as bad as you might think. They have automatic decompression which helps.

I went from an 04 YZ4450 to an 05 YZ250 and I'm not missing anything. When the YZ250 comes on, it comes on! I also don't understand the dislike of a 4spd gearbox. It's not like they took away a gear. 1st is a shade taller, and 4th is a shade lower than a "regular" 1st and 5th gear, respectively. And 3rd and 4th are divided up to cover the middle nicely. The torque and power curve on these bikes are amazing. You'll never be hunting for a gear.

Also, the 06-up YZF450 is back to a 5spd. Why, I don't know.

I have to agree if your intention is to ride the bike on a motocross track there is no issue with a 4 speed vs. 5 speed when you are talking a 450 4T. What biglou is saying is right on. I am an intermediate class rider and on most tracks I ride my KX450F (which is a 4speed) in primarily 2nd and 3rd. Long straights and some long whoop sections, depending on the run, I will use 4th. So if I had 5th it probably wouldnt get used much. Now if your plan is to ride the bike offroad primarily, then there are some more advantages to the 5 speed because it tightens up the gear spacing and gives you more options for varying terrain. But for the MX track you just dont need it, which is why 3 of the big 5 brands all used 4 speed gear boxes in 2006.

Yeh i know on a mx track i definetly wouldnt neeed 4spd but i do some long riding also on long roads where u can just go flat stick
i dont want to be at the back of the pack then

Yeh id LOVE one but all comes down to money

im only 17 and gotta get a car so that limits my $$$ money

ah well yz250 will be fine for now

anything i should look for on the toofidys?

just got my yz250 2001 fmf fatty pipe n stuff looks mint =D

just got a bold back tire so the wheel is spinning like mad in power band
