Help: grooves on inner tube of fork!

After 19 hrs, both my original seals were leaking on my 06 SSS KYBs (06 YZ250). When I dissembled them to replace the seals I found a series of 12" scratches on the medial (inner) side of the inner tube. The scratches begin at about 1" above the bottom. One scratch is deep enough for me to feel with my fingernail. The others I can't feel.

Couple questions:
1) what could have caused this?
2) How do I repair the groove?

Inner tube=steel tube? The RH leg wasn't centered properly on the axle. The legs were pulled together at the bottom.

Only way to repair the scratches is to either have the tubes re-chromed or replaced.

You need to closely inspect the ID of the upper (aluminum) tubes for scoring too.
