1) your physical size 5'10", 155 pounds
2) How physical / aggressive are you ? Pretty physical/aggressive when I have to be, calm and laid back normally. I'm no weightlifter, but no stick figure either, I guess in shape.
3) what do you plan to ride- woods and trails with family, we all have atv's, and I am looking for something different. We often go on rides that are 10-15 miles and 4 to 5 hours long. I have a honda rincon 650, so this will be a recreational, recreational vehicle. It will probably go on the shorter 1 or 2 hour trail rides unless it's surprisingly comfortable, I would go on the longer ones with it.
4) Do you have any riding experience? Never rode a motorcycle in my life, just four wheelers extensively, have over 3000 miles on my rincon, but I would imagine that means nothing as to riding a motorcycle.
5) Do you think you will race ? doubt it, if so just for fun once in a long while, not to win
6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work? yes
7) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)? I don't care what brand, and was thinking 4 stroke just because I want it to last many miles/years RELATIVELY maintenance free. I have always gotten the impression that 2 strokes were high maintenance race-type setups and 4 strokes were less powerful, but less maintenance counterparts, but I know nothing about that so please inform or correct me if I am wrong there
8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha
9) How much do you plan to spend on a bike? between 3 and 4000, would like to buy new.
10) anything else that you think would help form an opinion
I am looking for something fun and not too huge, I want to be able to ride trails with my brothers who will be on 4 wheelers, so something I can handle fairly easy and with good performance, but it doesn't have to be a racer, just enough to have fun. I am mainly concerned with maintenance and reliability. I understand everything has to be maintained, but I don't want to have to tear it apart every month and go through everything.

Well depending on how aggressive you want to ride in the woods and trails there are two really good options. If you just want to fart around and hang back with the utility 4 wheelers then a Honda XR 250 would be a good choice. If you wan't something with a little more power, thats more fun to ride then I would get a Kawasaki KDX 200. The Kawasaki isn't as good at lugging around like the XR is but it is a great trail bike and has enough power to be fun. The XR is a 4 stroke and the KDX is a 2 stroke but the maintence on the two shouldnt be an issue.

Id go with either a Honda XR (250 or 400, the choice is your's) or a Yamaha WR 250F. I was going to suggest a WR 450F at first, but considering you are new to bikes a 450 might be a bit much for you at this time.
