FMX suspension question..

Maybe this is a stupid question but I have been riding trails and would like to get into jumping.. Big jumping... When i watch FMX videos i cant help but notice how low everyone's rear shock is set. Is there a reason for this that I just dont understand yet? does it benefit in any way or is it just for short people? Jason
