TV Sets outdoors

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a cheap 25" tv mounted outdoors under a covered porch. Several neighbors have the same type thing but my TV has gone out after not even a year. I don't want to buy one of those made for outdoors sets as they seem pretty costly (I've only got $150 in this set).

Anybody know any tricks to keeping them good outside? It doesn't get any rain on from where it's at.

We're in prime, sit out by the pool and watch football weather now so I gotta get this straightened out!

I had one mounted up under my covered back patio too, for a couple of years and it never missed a beat. It was mounted hospital style up in a corner. The only think that I did was add a clear piece of plastic over the vents on the side that was facing the weather, open area of the patio.

I kept it out there all the time except for the coldest two months of the year.

Good luck with it...TV outside is great fun!

Yeah, even if there is no direct exposure to rain, the wind can and will blow moisture onto the set. You have to prevent this somehow. Timr's plastic shrouding is a good idea, but make sue to leave enough room for heat to escape.

i would make sure it is up high or somewhere it wont end up with any morning dew on it . that is if you guys get that in FL. also watch for rain that may be hitting things such as sills etc that splash onto the set.

i would mount a computer fan(usually obtainable for .50c at garage sales) on top of the cooling vents in back, leave it running all the time to draw out moisture

possibly pay for the extended warranty and use it

I didn't think about it earlier, but how is the humidity in your neighborhood?

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Condensation will/can happen in drastic temp changes, rather it's protected or not.

we get morning dew here in fl. but now its low humidity weather down here. is it on your lanai ?

I was in Orlando/Tampa for 2 weeks a couple February's ago. The humidity is insane compared to up here. I felt like I was wearing a wet blanket the whole time I was there. And this was February, I'd hate to imagine what it'd be like Mid July/August.

changed my mind................id build a sweet built in cabinet/entertainment center for it. maybe on top of a beer fridge, like an over-under washer dryer but way cooler the fridge will help by acting as a temp stabilizer........at least thats what you tell the wife

The humidity is pretty intense here. Sparky, it's lower humidity than usual now, but still more humid than the rest of most of America. It is on the lanai.

But still, it seems I'm the only one with this problem? Maybe the other's are just lucky.
I guess I'll take my chances trying to cover it on the side most exposed.

yeah i ment that it was the low humidity months here
maybee i notice the difference more than others seeing as im working out in it every day maybee the tv just wasnt up to the task

Now we're on to something.

I've heard that a fridge stocked full of beer runs much more economically!

Anyway, I've got the hot tub with wireless speakers to the TV set and the fridge already installed. Time to get a new TV!

A hot tub......in Florida?

lol, well yeah. For those nights that it gets below 70 outside. Seriously though it does feel good when it's about 65 out to sit in it with the jet's blowing on your back.

Nothing better than a dip in the hot tub when it's 10-20 degree's and snowing, best part is you don't even need to store the beer in a cooler! The getting out of the tub becomes a bit of an issue but hey that's what those propane torch heaters are for!

But doesn't the steam from the hot tub melt your igloo

I always enjoyed the hottub on those below zero nights so much so we drained ours for the entire summer. I remember one night when it was 20 below (yeah Chili it was only -20F) but when I got out I decided to put the cover back on before going into the house. My wet feet froze to the wood deck. I had a mometary panic until it dawned on me that there was 400 gallons of 104F water to thaw them off right in front of me

feels good after night of racing or day of riding

and anything below 50 here is freezing

If I did math correctly 65 F is 18 Deg. Celsius?

When I was in Florida I found something to be pretty funny. While we were in Florida we were at Downtown Disney, and we were walking around in short sleeves and shorts. While the locals were in fur jackets and jeans. Looked like they were really cold or something. I'd hate to see what they would be like in -40 C.

The temperature was somewhere around 65-80 F the time we were there.

Always easy to spot fellow canucks in Florida, we're the ones on the beach in 65-70 degree weather while the locals wear sweaters.
