what does it mean when a thread is closed?

what does it mean when it says 'this thread is closed' and has the lock on it?

Posted by: FruDaddy---------------------

It means that one of the mods has grown tired of the discussion and wants it to go away. Closing it prevents new posts.

Posted by: happytrails2all---------------------

That doesn't sound right! Shouldn't the forums community decide when a thread ends by not posting anymore?

Moderators are what set DRN apart from other boards. If something gets out of hand in THEIR opinion, it gets closed. Don't fret over it. They occasionally delete posts and threads, as well as, move them.

DRN prefers members to use good sentence structure and spelling but it is not unusual to see internet shorthand, LOL. The administrator wants a clean site that everyone can enjoy and the mods do a good job keeping it clean. You may disagree with them but it is the mod's choice and it is final. Don't take it personally it has happened to me more than once over the last 7 years and it will likely happen again, that's just the way it is.

This site works on the Golden Rule.

"He who has all of the gold, makes the rules"

I'm sorry that you try to make it that simple but whatever.

I accept the explanation, but don't totally understand or agree with it, so I posted a new thread in the 'Flame' forums to ask the mod their reasoning. Thanks.

But it is as simple as that. It's Okie's website, he makes the rules as he see's fit. It he choose to, it could be a free-for-all.

I am not saying I am opposed to this, in fact, I like it just the way it is.

I would imagine that the reasoning for closing a particular thread will vary depending on the thread. But from what I have been able to discern, is that they will usually close a thread for a couple of reasons. The thread has gotten away from the original intent of the thread and is now degenerating into a b!tching match. Or in some cases I have seen threads closed when pretty much all that needs to be said on a topic has been said, and anything else added to it would most likely end up in someone like me just berating your grammar or some such non-sense.

And from time to time I have seen where they just get a wild hair.

It's supposed to be a fun place, where on an occasion you learn a thing or two. Try not to take it so serious if your toe gets stepped on.

I'm not taking it personally, but I'm new in these forums and want to be an asset, so if I did something wrong I just wanted to know. This is what the 'Flames' forums moderator said:

It was a stupid thread to start with, and it was just going downhill. You got the last word in the thread, what more were you looking for?

Ouch!

That the thread is no longer "open" for posts; it is "locked" to users.

Posted by: happytrails2all---------------------

ok, ok - I can see you think it was a stupid ?, but the thread was only up for like 24 hrs and had plenty of responses so I couldn't understand why the mod chose to put a lock on it, but now I know. He thought it was a stupid thread (it's good to be king).

It never occurred to me that a moderator could make that kind of decision unless there was a post war going on, so I thought I did something wrong and wanted to know what it was.

You are really starting to annoy me.

Let's see if I can break this down for you.

On 11/17 you posted this :

Then a week later you post some idiotic rant about how quads suck and how they are bad for the sport, even though you (a former quad rider) and the rest of the quads are trespassing on private land and making all of us look bad. Then you proceed to try and defend trespassing, causing an already stupid thread to auger in further. Did I miss any key points?

If you are going to post half-assed rants in the Flame Forum you sure as hell better grow a thicker skin.
