this is random, but may be useful.
if you've regularly been losing coolant, or noticed some weeping from the water pump bleed hole, you probably need a new water pump shaft. if you have 60-80 hours on the bike and you have it apart for a top end (you should) then at least inspect the shaft, and if it looks like this one, replace it and the seals. every 4-stroke i've had has been prone to wearing grooves in this shaft.

here's another one. keep an eye on the step washer that holds the countershaft sprocket on the countershaft. there's a spring washer under it, and because of the constant tension, etc., this brittle piece can fail. no catastrophe, but finding out it's in pieces late at night when you're installing new chain and sprockets (you DO change them at the same time, right?) is a hassle when you want to ride next morning.
