what bike for me

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

1) physical size I am around 5'4" 110lbs

2) aggressive i think i am pretty aggressive the bike will need to be able to take a beating.

3) what do you plan to ride I am riding ether on a small gravel pit or out on some sand sort of flats with long open stretches

4) Do you have any riding experience? i have a good amount of experience

5) Do you think you will race ? i will not be racing ever i think since i live in a small town with no tracks

6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work? i am mechanically inclined and yes i will be doing the work and my dad is also a mechanic so I am fine there.

7) Do YOU have a preference to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)? I am really leaning towards four stroke since i don't have to worry about fuel mixing and four stroke is more power Yamaha or Honda and 125 2stroke or 250 four stroke

8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry? no dealers in driving distance only way to get to one is plane or ferry

9) How much do you plan to spend on a bike? around 3500

10) anything else that you think would help form an opinion I am going for a used bike and i don't want anything smaller then full size and i have ridden my friends 250 four stroke plenty of times and i love it.

for $3500, you could get a pretty good 250F, youre just a little bit smaller than me: 5'6'' range from 115-120lbs. and im currently riding a KX125, its a blast to ride. you said youve ridden your friends 250F, what year and brand is it? Yamaha's 250F are on the tall and heavy side, but theyre pretty reliable from what ive heard/read. im getting a KX250F early next year, but that doesnt mean ive outgrown my 125, im keeping it because i want to be able to compare. my 125 could last me a couple more years, plus, 125s are dirt cheap, i got mine for $1400 and it was very well maintained. a 250F could be hazardous if you dont take care of it properly . go look around and ride a couple of 125s and let us know what you think. a 125 would do better for just recreational riding anyway.

on this site, this intervention is called a "thread jack", but i'll let it slip because youre new . you sound a lot like dsmilyboy, so i would apply my above response to yourself. a smaller 125, KX( Kawasaki) or RM( Suzuki) would do the trick. a CR (Honda)125 is small, but is underpowered. a SX ( KTM)125 is targeted for experienced racers, not the bike for you, its the fastest stock 125, but it has one of the worst suspension setups. a YZ (Yamaha)125 is the tallest stock dirt bike in the world , very tall. its also targeted for more experienced riders. i ride a KX125 and it suits me fine, but stay away from a 250F for now .
